You know, this game has one defining charecteristic. Just one. But god dang it, that one thing was so huge that it made this game a joy to play for anyone with an ounce of imagination and creativity.

Charecter customisation.

I mean, you want to be a robotic samurai werewolf? thats doable.

You want to be an alien necromancer that also has hairy hands? I've seen more then a few.

You want to be a duke nukem knock off named retro-man? I've met that guy. Even acted like Duke.

This game was narvana for a role player or... just anyone looking for a game with a bunch of crazy looking super heros. That is the only unique thing about it... but OOOOOH is it such a saveing grace.

But guess what? People done goofed. Due to being flooded with new accounts, charecter creation has been slammed down on for new players, locking out a vast majority of options untill you've spent some time on the game.

Now let me make it clear right here, I get it. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ get it. It's not good that all these new accounts have been made exclusivly to make more charecters for free. That's not good. It's robbing the company of money. I get it. It's a serious problem that needs to be adressed.

(channles inner nostalgia critic)

BUT GOD ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DAMMIT. YOU DON'T HAMSTRING YOUR PRODUCT'S ONE SAVEING GRACE TO DO THAT. YOU DON'T CUT YOURSELF DOWN LIKE THAT FOR ANY SITUATION. THAT MAKES NO SEEEEEEENCE! *pant, pant*

I understand that it's only temporary. I get that the lock clears up when you finnish the tutorial, but oh my god this was such a dumb move! The first 10 minuets of gameplay is when you need to hook your player. if you havent done that, there expectations will plummit and most will abandon the game altogether. Gameplay dosent start when you first enter the world eather, it starts the second you log in. that includes charecter generation.

Again, I get it. This massive flooding of accounts to bypass the 2 charecter slot limmet is unacceptable. But there's better ways around this problem. Give players a chance to earn charecter slots. give them more then 2 to start out with. Find a better way! Please! Thats really my one issue here! If it wasent here, I would give this game all the praise in the world for being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RPer's paradise!

You know. this is the first negitive review I've ever made, and it's actualy on a game I have some fond memorys of. This is honestly very sad to me.

I'll be fair though... If your willing to put in the time to slog through the first half hour of the game with an unispired charecter, this game can wind up being something really cool.

MapleStory is a grindfest.

It knows its a grindfest.

It trys to be the best grindfest ever.

Does it pull it off? I'd say so. Is it the best? I dunno. Probably not. But it is good, if you just want to kill time grinding mobs that, for the most part, don't pose any threat or challange. Dont go in expecting more then that, and other time wasting distractions from events, and you'll enjoy it enough.

It will, however, make you wonder what the hell your doing with your life.

Ever play Gunz: The duel? The first one? Lemme tell you, that one? That one? That game was the most unwelcoming game to new players that I had seen in awhile, with veterans abusing exploits that actualy ended up being sanctioned by the Devs as a feature... one that new players that never learned and that veterans would abuse to compleatly destroy anyone who dared try to figure the game out.

I havent spent enough time with GunZ 2 to give you an accurate, overall review of wether it's worth your time or not, but I can say this...

We newbies can finnaly play, and that shows enough growth to earn an upvote from me.

Phew... I think it's about time to rework this now that the nostalgia goggles are 100% off.

Mabinogi has been a wonderful experience for me. I've always found it engaging. I've always enjoyed it. That's probably never going to change for me. I've discovered and experienced so much magic in this game, that it will most likely always hold a dear spot in my heart and memory, even if it is sad at times. I've met people in it that I've been friends with for a long time now, and we'll probably be friends for many years to come. I'll even go as far to say it's played a major roll in shaping me into the person I am today, and that is a person I'm very proud of. I've had such an intimate relationship with this game and I'll probably keep revisiting it till, for whatever reason, I can't anymore. Across both Nexon's main site (where I prefer to play) and steam, I have well past 5,000 hours by now, and I'm not done yet. Maybe soon, but not yet.

So... Why am I not recommending this to new players?

Mabinogi... It's dieing. Not a graceful death, where it's finally played out it's course. No, it's a bit more tragic then that. Slowly, very slowly, but surely. It's well past it's prime, and in recent years, Nexon's been milking it more and more for cash, and turning the focus from low fantasy to flashy, over-the-top and stylish. Looking at it now, I wouldn't blame someone for thinking it's something it's not. Mabinogi is losing it's identity, and it's a very sad thing to see happen to something that was once such a giant. The kind of game people pointed to and said "That one's a legend."

I'm going to stick around if only because of the memories. That will never die for me. Newcomers won't have those, however, and at this point... Sure, for a short while, you might see glimpses and sparks at what Mabinogi used to be. You might be enamored with the combat system which is, I promise, something that no other game has managed to do as well. But once the initial reaction wears off, you'll look at this as another "whatever" game. Hell, maybe even a bad game.

If you really want to give it a go, go right ahead. You'll find a good game, though it will most likely be short lived.

But you won't find a damn near perfect game. Not anymore.

Thanks for the story, Grandma. It was absolutely beautiful.

Dust... Ah, Dust...

I could go on about the great writing and the beutiful world, but one is already apparent and the other would keep us here for hours, so I'll just talk about the gameplay.

At it's core, Dust is actualy a simple game. there's your standard combo, and a couple branching moves including a launch, for bringing your fights to the sky, and a grab move, both of which are inisiated during your standard combo. In other words, your entire moveset is unlocked straight off, and is suprisingly small.

So does this mean the game gets boreing fast? I suppose that depends on your own mentality. If your looking for a game with clear advancment such as unlockable skill trees, classes, and such, this is not for you. This game will get stale fast.
If your looking for a game about mastery, this is the game for you. Just because Dust's moveset is small does not make it easy to master.

You will spend hours upon hours honeing your ability to chain dust's various attacks together, with each passing minuet becoming more fluid and building up larger combos. You'll start learning when to group enemys up and when to pick out the straggelers. You'll learn which moves flow into the next. You'll learn about dodge-canceling. You'll learn about how to effectivly use the dust storm. You'll learn when to use Fidget's magic, untill eventualy you'll be wracking up 1000+ combos without batting an eye.

Dust is, at it's core, a game about mastery. Thats all there really is to be said.
