"I don't think this one's for me. I like my arena survival games a slower, longer burn."

Fun fact: The Last Stand, the first one, was the inspiration for the first Call of Duty: Zombies from World at War.

The age shows in some areas, but mostly these games still have the same level of engagement and fun as they did in the past. They are the product of a passionate developer who shaped modern day take on the zombie survival genre. Be it for nostalgia, to experience a piece of gaming history, or just to support an indie dev with a love of the industry, it's more then worth a gamer's cash.

Don't be fooled by the Description. There's not terribly much here in this exceedingly linear game.
But don't mistake that for a lack of quality. there's a very decent game here, and it's worth the price. I said that when I first bought it, I say it now after a recent replaying.
The movement being based on where your cursor is takes a bit of getting used to, and it can be toggled to the more traditional cardinal directional movements, but the default movement style is rewarding if you stick with it.

Now this takes me back...

As someone who has a less then amicable relationship with battle royals, this is the only one that I can honestly say I like. Straight out of the early 2000s and the days of stickman arena to the modern day with all the additions avalible today, without loosing the chaotic feel of games from back in the day.

God I feel old, and I'm not even thirty yet.

You can't polish a turd, but you can try to make people think it's not one.
But it's a turd. it's a stinky one that refuses to get flushed.

This link has been polished to it's Zenith.

I'll cherish this experience, but I'm ready to move on to the next cycle of the endless chain.

Till we meet again.

Let me preface this by saying that this is a spinoff of the free browser-based text RPG Fallen London. While you can enjoy Sunless Sea on it's own, the browser game clears up a few terms and themes. Moving on...

Sunless sea, by itself, isn't the best game. it's pretty average, really. The mechanics work well, everything does as it's supposed to, the gameplay loop is pretty alright.

It's the writing and the world it paints that really sells it, though. this is probably the most hands on story game I've ever really played. There's lots to discover and lots to do, and while it can seem overwhelming when you first go in, it's quick to learn just how everything works, one bit at a time, and from there you just want to keep going simply because you just HAVE to know what happens when you complete what you currently have your eyes on, even if it means that you have to start over again and replay those last few hours because hey, it really is just that good.

Looking over the description, you know what to expect. A simple, good looking, admittedly clucky but still fun isometric game with just at liiiiiiiiittle itty bitty bit of kinky humor, conversation, core plot elements, enemies, attacks, ect... just a bit. just a tiny little bit. won't even know it's there. I promise.

Aside from the arrow keys it's a two button isometric exploration game with a heavy empasis on inventory managment as you go through a simple gameplay loop: Talk to villagers (preferably from the front), get information about nearby areas to explore, explore, level, gain money, get achevos, complete the occasional quest, return to town/go to new town, repeat, and along the way, maybe, just maybe learn that it goes a little deeper...

It's a classic, tried and true method of making an enjoyable game along with it's own flair added on top, and done well. admiteddly it's not perfect though. as I said there's a level of cluckyness to it all. the isometric view can screw with your perspective and leading to you missing attacks you swore you hit. dropping items from your tight inventory have a habit of being picked up again on accident, the two button combat can feel like a drag after long enough.

It's a nich game that I wouldn't recommend to everyone, but if you like isometric games, have the patience to deal with it's flaws, and are maybe just a liiiiiittle bit thirsty for monster girls, you'll enjoy yourself with this one. and at 10 dollars, it's worth the average 15 hours you'll spend romping through this lewd little land.

Remember, talk from the FRONT. Not from above, and certainly not from behind.
Or do. I don't judge.
