I feel like I can offer a different perspective on this game since I haven't played The Witcher series (I know, I know) and also wasn't part of the hype train for Cyberpunk 2077.

Things I liked:
  • Keanu Reeves as psychotic badass! I love it!
  • Combat - I'm playing a blades melee build on hard difficulty and damn is the combat fun as balls. This is one of the few games that offers both guns and melee weapons where melee is a viable (and fun) option. It feels really satisfying hacking away at your enemies with a katana.
  • In-game systems - Perks and attributes system has a lot of things to choose from and feels intuitive which makes leveling up feel rewarding. Hoarders are gonna have a blast because there are sell stations on every corner and also you can disassemble items into scraps which weigh 0 (meaning that you don't have to go sell stuff as often); Braindance as a cool detective mini-game.
  • Side quests - The quest where you have to locate and convince 7 of Delamaines cars (his alter egos i guess) to return 'home'. One of them is a hilarious Portal reference
  • Philosophical ideas - They take their setting (dystopic future) where you have cybernetic upgrades to your body and actually discuss the negative side effects it may have on your body and mind; the struggle V goes through because she literally has another personality in her head and the dynamic it creates; the scene where you are supposed to have sex with a prostitute but instead you talk to her and she deconstructs your whole belief system and makes you question reality;
  • Language - Worldbuilding through the use of jargon specific to the world of Cyberpunk such as: preem, eddies, choom, fixer, ripperdoc etc.
  • General flow of the gameplay - You always have something to do and getting from point A to point B feels really fluid. You run hella fast, you can summon a ride at any time and there are also fast travel points around the map that you can you use after you discover them.
  • You seem to be having a shot at a bar with someone for half the game.

Things I didn't like:
  • Bugs - A bunch of bugs. People clipping through stuff, textures not loading immediately etc. Not awful (1 crash in 16 hrs of play) but it does break immersion from time to time - I'm hoping they'll fix these soon.
  • Dialogue - It is really concerning when you realise at the beginning of the game that they offer you a 'Skip' button with which you can skip through almost all dialogue in the game. I'm honestly a bit disappointed that this wasn't a stronger part the game. I felt almost no need to ever press the blue dialogue options and found myself skipping through most yellow ones cos they were mostly exposition based (except the 'inner' dialogues with Johnny, those I liked). Also dialogue options feel redudant cos it feels like no matter what you pick you end up with the same result.
  • Driving - As a guy who loves to just drive around in GTA (from SA to V) because it feels so smooth and enjoyable this games driving disappointed me. It feels slugish and non-responsive. Its even worse considering that automoto culture was a thing they focused on in this game (considering how many offers you get to buy vehicles).
  • Bad establishment of characters - The game bombards you from the start with a ton of information and just really rushes the introduction to your first 'companion' Jackie. The player is given almost no time to form an emotional bond with him and then is expected to mourn after he dies (ironically I really liked the quest where you parttake in his funereal - it's all dialogue and it made me feel more emotion in those 10 mins for Jackie than I felt through the entire first act); V sometimes comes of as a bit of an a*****e and you can't even choose the non-a*****e option.
  • Mature content - Not a big minus but I feel like they could've done more with their 18+ tag. Some of the f-bombs feel like they were put in just so they could justify having an 18+ tag and it feels kinda cringe.

Conclussion: I think Cyberpunk 2077 is a game with fun gameplay (slashing people with my katana is really fun), passable dialogue and some interesting philosophical ideas that I wish were more plentiful in the game and were explored more deeply. It is buggy right now and I hope the devs can fix that as soon as possible. I would also be really happy if they could fix the driving in the game cos its pretty bad right now. All in all I'm having a lot of fun with the game and I can see myself playing it for 40+ more hours and I don't regret buying it.

Edit: profanities
