I wasn't expecting much going into this game (mostly due to talk of a short campaign and the game's high price tag) but I finally managed to pick it up on sale for about $35. While it's not as innovative as its predecessor, Arizona Sunshine 2 is still a very fun VR game.

It has an impressively wide arsenal of powerful, satisfying-to-use firearms, both handguns and two-handed longarms, as well as melee weapons and explosives. Reloading is among the best I've seen in a VR game (second only to the venerable H3VR). The zombies themselves can move quite fast, even on the default skill level - I died several times during the main campaign, and I could see this game becoming extremely difficult for a VR newbie (although there are two easier difficulty options, which is a good accessibility feature). The gore system is impressive, and big showery head-pops are frequent (although it is deeply unsatisfying to shoot one of the boil-encrusted zombies and see your bullet do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥).

The main campaign has some cool-looking and varied environments (and no less than 3 sewer levels, yippie) and took me about 10 hours to complete. I haven't checked out the horde mode, but that seems pretty cool too. I didn't see many bugs and the game was generally pretty performant, which is a big plus. The humor is quite a bit cruder than the first game, but it works to set the comedy-action-movie tone of the game quite well. No gloom and doom here; we're wise-cracking and poop-joking our way through this apocalypse.

I would recommend this game, especially if it's on sale for around 30-35 bucks. I know it's hard to make money on the VR market right now, so I understand why the game is priced at $60, but it would probably still be a fun game at that price and is, frankly, a steal at anything lower than $40.

I bought this game about a year and a half ago and it's pretty cool to see what it has become. You can take it slow with stealth OR go balls-to-the-wall crazy and rush in guns blazing. What's not to love?

Is it jank? Yes. Is the dev working tirelessly to fix this and add more content? Yes. Worth supporting for that alone.

This game is really cool. A bit short, as I have already "finished" the game (going to play it again in Hard Mode though). The reloading mechanics are, obviously, the stand-out feature, and they work really well and are cool... except the crossbow, which can be a bit awkward as swinging your head around (the more immersive approach) when you have a brick of a headset on your face isn't always the best idea. I didn't see any major bugs, which is a plus. Wasn't extraordinarily difficult in normal mode (with the exception of *that one room* - you'll know it when you see it.), but it was certainly creepy and atmospheric. Can't wait to see if the roguelike gamemode from the pancake version is implemented here! A must-try, stand-out title that makes the most of VR.

A more linear, story-focused take (think Half-Life Alyx or Metro, not Into the Radius) on a Stalker-inspired VR game. A little bit too much lore-dumping text and dialogue to read in the early-game, but there's nothing stopping you from skipping it all and jumping into the mutant/bandit-blasting action. Controls are generally pretty good, some of the equip regions (especially the over-the-shoulders; hint - grab your ears) are a little funky but you get used to them. Weapons are interesting, about a dozen guns in all, although some of them are a little too similar stat-wise (DEagle and PM, all 3 AKs). The insane variety of anomalies is pretty impressive and they make for very cool set dressing/props/traps, but the method of dealing with most of them is the same (throw a bolt and run past). The work-in-progress raids gamemode is very cool and visiting the player's home base between levels is a welcome change, allowing one to organize and choose their gear before setting out. The game is also pretty good performance-wise. The best part, though, is that the dev is very active in working to solve problems with the game and works very hard to fix bugs, accept suggestions, and add major content updates. Z.O.N.A Project X VR may be a little rough around the edges, but it is a fun and unique game with an active and dedicated developer, which is (in my opinion) more than enough to justify buying this game.
