Though interested in the premise and aesthetics, I was initially put off at launch due to the score of middling review. Just recently picked it up after the Realms Rebuilt update on discount, however, I would absolutely pay full price for it.

Both ranged and melee combat is fun and feels impactful in a way that's lacking in many early access/survival games. Hoping for an update to 3rd person animations and feedback, but in its current state, it is perfectly serviceable.

Being rooted in the new progression tree, unlocking new recipes is straightforward and motivating. Yes, there is tons of different materials. However, they follow a clear logic and pattern so that the system is much less overwhelming and convoluted than suggested by most comments. In fact, I think this is a great approach to enabling build specializations. I especially enjoy the Valheim-esque food buff system and cooking.

Base building is intuitive with diverse tile sets, though essentially offering only the standard palette of creative freedom already known from any other survival-crafting game. Large structures can look flat as there are only a limited number of options to add depth to facades. Half tiles would be well appreciated.

Again, I can't speak for the initial release but with the latest update and offline mode, the game offers robust systems and lots of fun. It feels relatively polished for an EA game (have yet to encounter any bugs or glitches).
