Fantastic game from my childhood, it gets much better after the first missions.
If you change settings and the game doesn't open anymore, do the following:
in your steam library, right click on the game, then click files, then local files, and in the "Main" folder delete "wolfconfig".
Now if you open the game, it will create a new "wolfconfig" file with the default settings, so you can try again and try different settings.
What would probably give you problems is the resolution, so try going up one step at a time until it doesn't allow you anymore
