I really wanted to like this game because I'm a big fan of LOTR and the survival-craft genre, but this game is a bit too shallow and bland to have appeal for seasoned players. I played for quite some time hopeful that the gameplay would improve at some point, but much to my dismay, the entire game has the same feel from the beginning to the end, you're probably going to see all there is to see within some hours or so of gameplay mechanic-wise. Maybe you can play for longer if you're really invested in the storyline or likes the IP, but it just wasn't enough for me although I really tried to enjoy it. There are few tasks you do that feel rewarding, and playing the game feels like a chore after a while.

Your only combat options in the game is either attacking with your standard 3-hits sequence, charging a special attack, shield bashing, rolling to dodge, or using your bow. And THAT'S IT, there is nothing else besides these. The hitboxes are also questionable, you get a 2-handed great axe expecting to swing it around and cleave multiple enemies but you can only hit them one at a time, even when the enemies are practically clipping into each other and you can see your axe swinging across them. The combat is so limited and lackluster that it got me thinking I was playing a free mobile game.

There is no build or attributes your character can spec into nor new skills to learn. Your "build" is dictated only by your equipment with their ONLY "stats" being their tier, which impacts the damage they deal or absorb (there seems to be only 3 tiers in the entire game) and some minor additional effect. You can get temporary buffs by eating certain foods at specific times

Exploration is painful thanks to most places playing the same (few biomes and regions have a unique feel to them) and level design being too simple, you get no incentives for exploring an abandoned building because you won't find anything worthwhile most of the time. Traversing the dungeons feel really slow even after you completely cleared them and the enemies there no longer pose you any threat, you can unlock a building that allows you instant teleport between similar buildings, but if you have to walk through the dungeon it can definitely feel monotonous.

The game isn't very visually appealing, not that I think the main focus should be about graphics, but it bothers me if it looks hastily-made or unpolished which I feel is the case here.

I think the animations are mostly good, but some of them look quite bad like when you spook a potential prey when you're hunting and it just struts away very quickly while moving its legs very little. Also some of the combat animations seems to kind of snap into place.

I'd say the building and crafting part is okay, but it definitely could use more features, I did give a bit of leeway for the devs here because they can still be added later, though some of the cooking and crafting parts do take a bit too long to be done. The game does have a good number of foodstuff the player can produce.

From little I've read in some discussions the dev team does seem to be attentive enough to the game community, so I commend them for that. The game has an okay pricing, but as of the time of purchase I couldn't buy only the base game, it had to be bought bundled with OST and artwork. For this price range, I would have suggested some alternatives to friends. But if you really like the IP or if this kind of game is your cup of tea then you may consider buying it.

Overall this game gives a similar feeling to playing lego games without the survival-craft part, but if one can ignore the relative simplistic design it still can be enjoyable for some. Maybe the standards I've based on to judge this game feels a bit harsh, but if you release it on steam with the game not being on early access and not being polished enough, then it's just gonna fall short of expectations. I do hope the devs can continue working on the game and are able to further improve it because there is some potential, but as of now I can't really say that I would recommend this game to a friend.

A very well designed and unexpectedly addicting game that meshes roguelike elements with city-builder mechanics. The charming part of Against the Storm is the cycle of successfully establishing cities and then venturing further onto the overworld to build new cities for your Queen, mechanically, that gives the game a feeling of not having a true late-game which might be off-putting for players looking for a conventional, in-depth, city-builder game, but gives you way more replayability thanks to its roguelike features.

Before starting an expedition for building a new city, players will have to carefully pick choices to help them further develop the city and fulfill the queen's requests, these choices range from which villager species to bring to your city - each with their own unique traits and needs, what starting resources you need, which of the queen's quests you plan to complete, which building blueprint to acquire, which biome to settle on, and so on. The fun part is that most of your choices are not going to be optimal and might not work well with one another, so you will have to make them work in your favor and play as well as you can with the hand you are dealt with. This cycle of combining numerous, different pros and cons keeps the gameplay fresh and interesting.

Another great point for Against the Storm is that updates and new features are implemented into the game constantly and transparently by a dev team that is very attentive to its game's community, they set the bar way up for other studios.

I think it's got a good start for an indie game in early access. It left a good impression on me. There is still a lot of polishing and streamlining needed but that's expected. I think it's an ambitious project considering the size of the dev team and the difference in genres from their previous title, but it has a lot of potential.

It basically has a gameplay reminiscent of Oxygen Not Included with the main differences being that it's rat-themed and instead of the player being an omniscient being who can pan the camera around the whole area instantly, you're like a queen rat overseeing her subjects and her ratdom.

What this means gameplay-wise is that you are an actual character in the game and has the physical constraint of having to walk around to give any orders or take care of stuff. My main gripe with this game as it currently is, is that there are way too many things to be micromanaging and that's probably going to tire potential players.

Ratopia does have an interesting take on the city-builder genre in that it kind of feels like a platformer as well since you have your very own character, but as it currently is, it feels like it doesn't excel at either, the main reasons for that being the lack of more automated tasks and more in-depth conditions and options for resource production buildings, which leads to the player having to manually intervene in a lot of things including fighting and building, which is further exacerbated by the fact that the player has to manually walk around and help with some tasks on a distant part of the colony, which might not sound so bad at first, but is going to get really tiring once your colony gets big enough.

Ratopia has an issue with scalability, which means the gameplay is going to get more difficult, in a tiring way, as your colony grows bigger, with limited tools at the player's disposal to offset these changes.

Even though most of my review sounds negative, I believe the game has tons of potential and the devs seem invested to really make the game successful. I'm very fond of this min-mashing of genres that the devs are doing with Ratopia (Platformer + City-builder) as they did in their previous game, Ratropolis (Deck-builder + Tower Defense) and pulling it off while keeping the game fun is understandably difficult so I applaud their effort.

Terrible balance issues, horrific grinding, greedy monetization and P2W problems, the devs not addressing the issues that plagues this game since a while, community feedback being largely ignored. As if those problems were not enough, I've seen some tanks with the 'Z' markings on them recently, and judging by the situation in Ukraine I see them as akin to the nazi swastika. Although I understand that it might be difficult to censor or ban a single specific letter considering the way customization works in warthunder, seeing such a thing displayed is very disappointing.

There are good points about this game, huge pool of land, air, and sea vehicles, great vehicle models. It's a fun game but the grinding keeps getting worse the higher you get in the tiers and it ends up ruining the experience. Overall the cons far outweigh the pros. Warthunder requires a colossal amount of time for you to have any kind of meaningful progress which, sadly, would be better spent somewhere else.

Basically an indie 3 v 3 pokemon game with metroid-like platformer progression

Gameplay-wise it plays like metroid with more parts of the world being unlocked after completing certain objectives or requirements. If you collide with a monster, you are taken to the combat section where the game is played out similarly to pokemon but instead of a 1 v 1 there can be up to 6 monsters for each side involved in the fight (3 active in the fight, 3 in the reserve for swapping out) which allows for interesting team compositions if you pair monsters with good synergy.

The combat mechanic that stands out the most is the combo system which increases the damage done by your monsters. Every ally healed or buffed, and every enemy attacked increases the combo counter. The counter itself is increased by every heal/damage proc, so attacks with a higher amount of hits is preferable for increasing the counter as opposed to a single high-damage attack. As a result, your supporting monsters should usually be the first to act and then following up with the damage dealer.

The game's mechanics are solid, it's got good music, great pixel artstyle. I think it could use a bit more work in some animations and fine tuning with the sound (some attack sounds are a bit loud), still a great game nonetheless.

Great gameplay for an early access, the current game pacing and aesthetic went through a huge improvement over the previous title, and is really reminiscent of the megaman x series with a little bit of roguelike elements and better replayability thrown in.

Top game god bless bill gates, I'm also glad that out of all the remade games of this series, the greatest effort went to improve Age2.

Great time-killing fps with a lot of replayability. It's been quite some time since its release yet it retains a solid player base. And although the most recent updates felt lackluster on content and tripwire's decision to introduce some weapons as DLCs upset some players, the game is worth it overall as it is kept fresh and interesting with new content introduced from time to time.

It's a free visual novel that, despite being short, is polished, and well thought-out, but also deceiving - in a good way.

At first it looks like just any generic visual novel, but as stated by the developer, it was meant to be daring and wildly different, so don't expect it to be your regular visual novel experience.

Not much else can be said without spoiling the game, keep in mind it contains some... strong contents.

Also my poem-writing skills are still crap. 8.5spook/10

A timeless classic and one of my favorites from the PS2 days.

I still consider it the best star wars game ever released.
