Imagine making one of the most iconic video games of all time recognized by so many people in the gaming community. Only to let bot hosters hijack it and harass the community that still keeps the game alive 17 years later. You're a multi-billion dollar company fix your product and stop letting these neck-beard humiliate you and commit real crimes on your platform. It's sad to one of my favorite games of all time be neglected to this extent. Either fix the game or its time to pull the plug on TF2's life support.

Rust is a crafting survival game that pushes the limits of multiplayer survival and was a huge innovator in pushing it's genre into the mainstream. The game has a heavy focus on PvP combat with weapons ranging from bows to modern guns with very little PvE content. The building system (although a bit flawed) is very fun to use, flexible, and you can make some phenomenal looking bases. They dive even deeper into base building with a wiring mechanic that allows you to hook up different gadgets, defenses, and even quality of life things like lights. It really pushes the feel of starting as a naked neanderthal with a rock to becoming a modern warrior with guns. Which is a great feeling! More recently the developers have implemented a deep and complex farming system to further elevate self sustainability in a ruined world. Also making food less of a hassle to gather on a regular basis.

So why do I not recommend this game?

I believe the biggest underlying issue with the game is it's community.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying everyone who plays this game is toxic. Although from my experience with almost every player I've encountered it's hard to change my mind about it. I believe the developers have the wrong mindset for the game. They add instruments which is meant to create fun and hilarious social moments. Or even things like a deep farming system. But I find it all pointless because everyone in this game shoots each other on sight. Another major issue of the game is offline raids and decay. This decay system forces players to sink time into the game everyday or be punished by losing their base. Offline raids are when enemy players invade your base while your offline and take and destroy everything without even giving you a chance to fight back. Speaking of the great system, I hope you enjoy building a meta honeycomb bunker cause that's what you have to do unless you want to lose everything very quickly. In general this game is a HUGE time sink and requires A LOT of your time which actually leads into another major issue of the game.

It doesn't matter how good you are at the game, if your enemy puts more time into it than you do; you will lose. It doesn't matter if you upgrade your entire base to the toughest material in the game, players who have a lot more time to sink into the game will always triumph while your not playing.

Personal story:
My friends and I (trio team) have sunk over 20+ hours into a base on a low population no decay server. It was very well defended and secluded away from everyone else's base on the server. It only took one "no life" and one night to lose it all, and I mean completely leveled the entire base. Nothing was left. So my conclusion why sink so many hours into the game if you can lose it all because you have a life. Of course I was angry at first but I quickly got over it because this is just how the game is. It punishes you for not playing.

TLDR: A great survival game with good building mechanics and PvP combat but possibly one of the most toxic communities. Only play the game if you expect to sink in almost all of your free time into it or unless you have a large group to play with. Other than that I recommend looking for another game in this genre.
