First time trying the GTA series of games. Bought RDR2 and played it over and over again, and thought I would give GTA 5 a try. The game just isn't that immersive at all. I had no will at all to do any of the side quests, but rather plowed through the story to get it over with. The story isn't too bad, but that is overshadowed by poor game play mechanics that leave the player extremely frustrated as well as a world very limited and completely unrealistic in regard to AI interaction.
Speaking to game mechanics, the swimming and vehicles outside of the cars/trucks is outright maddening. The content and language is absolutely disgusting for a video game. I can be ok with some cussing and other stuff, but this game takes it to an extreme that damn near made me want to quit. It was more than a little overdone.
I will be watching GTA 6, to see if improvements are made, but not holding my breath. It holds not a single candle to RDR2.
After reading comments, I am uninstalling the game and done with it. Now I know why RDR2 got left in the dust. Why make good DLC content when you can sucker people into paying tons of money for easy to make online nonsense right? The future is not looking bright if RS keeps this trajectory.... Also, make modding easier with your games. Single player at the minimum should be crazy easy to use... But, I suppose when your objective is to push people into online play so you can then sucker them out of money, why would you ever care to make a quality DLC to buy or allow modding to be useful to game longevity.

Changed review due to updates and sheer amount of room for good with this game.

Played on console, and PC is much better. Then again, controllers are for the 80's.

How this game has such a positive review is far beyond my scope of reasoning. I made it to the first combat portion and hung it up. Terrible controls, terrible weapon representation, terrible all around... Worst game I have played in a long time. Sorry Cap, this is TERRIBLE...

The main story is great and there is plenty of hours of enjoyment. There is certainly room for improvement, as I got bored to death after my 240 hours of play. I'm certain they will continue to work on it and the mod community will aid in longevity. While I was a little disappointed in the economy and for instance, the inability to do anything to the bare Starborn ship, as well as outposts not really being that useful or user friendly, the game is worth the cost and knowing Bethesda, which has always been very mod friendly, it will be one which I pick up again and play for hundreds of hours more.

While the game was not too bad, the fact I have to "sync" with their cloud to even play it..... If I could get a refund right now I would. I am sick and tired of games being slaves to some launcher and their servers to play. I just want to play single player and save the game to my own damn hard drive.

Anything Bohemia is worth supporting in Alpha. Has a way to go, but worth the 20.00 making sure the game moves forward as quickly as possible. AI path finding is the number one fix for this I can see. Enjoying it, but when you start, do you best to get two refineries up ASAP if playing single player. That is where path finding gets ya in the rump.

While I found the deeper dynamics of the game to be quite enjoying, there is some work that should be done to make it better. The tutorials are ok at best, forcing the player to read countless guides online to understand the systems that are not intuitive. Not a fan of games that require an encyclopedia to understand and play. There should have been more hands on tutorials to better understand the system at the start and a better designed UI. Movement and turns need to be numbers rather than singular actions, to better command the battlefield. The ability to move once rather than allotted movement numbers/spaces is hindering to such a degree that it makes combat and movement mechanics frustrating. The enemy has stacked units while you are lucky to get 3 in a unit outside that of your main character's units, and your squishy units are always targeted without a real way in which to protect them, as the enemy simply goes around you, especially cavalry, which enemy gets right away in large numbers while you have to go Google how in the heck you get such a luxury. A unit is done for a turn if your healer within takes a healing action. The amount of turns they expect you to finish in does not work well at all regarding objectives that you MUST take to have enough money and resources to keep up. I like a challenge for sure, but not an illogical challenge to a game. The UI is one of the worst parts, when you look at working on units and having to repeat actions that should not need to happen, over and over again.

Great for alpha play. There are some things that will drive you nuts, like not being able to hire laborers and watch critical infrastructure fall down and animals starve with hay right next to them however. Game has potential.

The game has potential, just not much yet. Once you get to level 4, you will fight fish for a half hour in a seemingly endless boring battle in which the fish never gets tired. Only to pull in something mediocre, while a fish twice the weight of the same type was caught in a 6 minute fight.

I do think the game will be better, and plan to keep it for sure. Just right now, not too much fun with what I described above. Also, it does not feel right when casting or when fighting a fish just yet. So immersion could use a touch-up.
