Early Access Review
Most of the folks I know use mods to protect themself from crashers and other exploits. They just updated the game with easy anti-cheat, which is easy to get around for cheaters. However, this has basically killed the modding scene for this game and got rid of the only way for most folks to protect themselves.

TLDR if they don't get rid of easy anti-cheat the game will die

I would like to say off the bat that I actually like this game, but I wish steam gave me the option for a mixed review button rather than a good or bad review.

Pros:
This game takes HEAVY inspiration from STALKER, the movie Stalker, and Roadside Picnic. It takes features like the emissions from STALKER and gives them a function (resetting map loot) rather than you have to hide for a few minutes. It also does a fantastic job capturing the old soviet ruins vibe from its source material. The weapon maintenance from Stalker are also present and feel pretty nice... for the most part

The areas in this game are varied enough to where it has kept me busy for all of my playtime through the story and even a little bit after. There are factories, villages, swamps, and old mining sites. They are a treat to look around even at night. Scratch that, ESPECIALLY at night.

Weapon cleaning in this game is also a fun mechanic that a gun nerd such as myself can enjoy, but is also basic enough to where a beginner to firearms can figure it out easily enough. The best thing about the weapon cleaning system is that you are encouraged to bring back damaged weapons you find in the zone and fix them up so you can sell them. It bring about a way for you to unwind after a longer mission in the zone.

After a recent update fixing the virtual stock the gunplay got a whole ton better for me. It's actually really solid shooting that is in my top 3 for VR gun games. The bullets have a slight travel time that depends on what type of rounds you are using and you can also mod your weapon to fit your needs. You like keeping submachine guns to keep your carry weight down? Go for it! You like going in guns blazing weighed down with ammo and armor with an AR? Hit it my man. There is also some decent sniping, but I don't use it too much because my hands are still shaky even with virtual stock

Cons:
I'll split this into a non-spoiler and spoiler section, because there is some ♥♥♥♥ later on that really sucks.
The biggest con for me is that enemies do not drop loot whatsoever. You can fight throughout a camp of enemies that have full-auto guns with uncanny accuracy after sprinting then dead stopping and they'll drop NOTHING. If they dropped anything at all like STALKER, then I would be much more happy with the state of gun enemies. The only thing you get is whatever they are guarding, which could be something like a rusted to hell gun and some non-AP ammo (most gun enemies wear armor btw which makes AP the only ammo worth using).

The weapon ironsights on certain guns are misaligned, which forces you to buy a red dot sight or something of the like which also increases the weight of the gun. This saddens me greatly because I really like AK ironsights.

By far the most bizzare thing I've noticed is that pistols with +p ammo do the most damage I've seen in the game. It boosts the damage to 100% whereas an AK does about 35% ish damage. Speaking of AKs, the AKM does less damage than the AK-74 for some reason. To those who do not know why this is strange, lemme help you real quick. The AKM fires a more powerful round than the AK-74. The tradeoff for these guns should be that the AKM is harder to control, but it does more damage and that the AK-74 is the polar opposite. There is a mod to fix this, but I feel it should be addressed by the devs

Shotguns are by far the most glitchy weapon in the game right now. I once reloaded a sawed-off double-barrel shotgun and the game audio cut out and then crashed 15 seconds later, this has happened multiple times. The pump shotgun only ever shows a white shell inside it when you're slightly pumping it to check if you have a round in there. This shows up even when the gun is empty; so not only can you not tell what type of shell is in there, but you cannot tell if it is even loaded.

Since my last review that have fixed the virtual stock issue; but I feel they should still implement a bipod attachment or a aim stabilizer button like in Hotdogs Horseshoes and Handgrenades.

I know this game takes inspiration from STALKER and Roadside Picnic, but it takes way too much inspiration in my opinion. In the first area you explore they have the exact anomaly that in seen in STALKER in the CNPP generator area. If this was the only "reference" I could let it slide, but they also ripped the "blank" artifact from STALKER as well. It would be fine if it was a one time artifact that you find as an easter egg, but it is one of the most common you find in the game. I'm sure there are some other things I'm forgetting, but that is what I can remember at the time of writing.

SPOILER Cons:
After beating the story I kinda like where it was going, but it ends up being a huge copout involving characters that they give you no reason to care for. Also as a nitpick no one has a Slavic accent.
Another horrid thing is the "Slider". He teleports from across the map and two shots you. If he hears you or an enemy that shoots at you, you bet your ass he's gonna tele♥♥♥♥ you in 2 to 3 hits. You can hear him coming, but it sounds like the warble sound from anomalies. If he had a more distinct audio cue like a scream or something then he would be balanced. But as it stands he is just a jumpscare factory that will zoom right to you if he catches the slightest clue you are there.

I still like this game, but it has some steep downsides for me. I really hope the devs continue to update the game because it feels like a statue being sculpted. They just need to chip away more imperfections (maybe change the story) and it could very well be the best VR game out there.

There isn't much to say about this game, but off the bat I will say that this feels unfinished.

Anywho, on to the positives first. The artstyle is very VERY nice and stylish. It was a treat looking at all of the levels from start to finish and I only rarely lost sight of enemies because of it, which is kind of astounding given that there is no color. The music is also really nice throughout, didn't think synth would work with this kind of game, but hey, it worked really well.

Now for the downsides. Oh lord where to start. Biggest point has to be that all of the bosses are braindead easy, even on the hardest difficulty. All they do is run at you or near you and you never need to change your tactics once to beat them. That itself is a damn shame because all of their designs are excellent, but they are weighed down by their fights.
Number two for me is the animations. They're just unfinished, I don't want to be mean but the character animations are really stiff and weird, the enemies sometimes look like they are clay figures melting in the sun anytime they stop to aim at you. You could make the argument that this is a retro inspired game, but I don't think that gives it a pass.
Last thing I'll touch on is the requirements for the hardest difficulty. I am going to spoil what happens in the first level, so if you still want to play the game even after everything I said please stop here. Okay cool, right so for the first mission on the hardest difficulty you need to get the deed from the mansion, if you don't you fail the whole mission. What makes this dumb is that THE WHOLE MANSION BURNS DOWN AT THE END! It is like this for E V E R Y mission! You free civilians and kill the big even, but by god you forget to get the milk... MISSION FAILED! It drags the game down for me a smidge, I know it sounds petty and is probably a me thing, but it bears mention.
All in all it's a okay game, but 15$ seems steep for a 1 playthrough game that's pretty jank.

Ready or Not has no doubt filled the void that had been in tactical shooters for a while now. Because, unfortunately, we live in an age where Rainbow 6 is about fighting aliens and your own squadmates rather than A.I. terrorist.

But anywho, Ready or Not is a spiritual successor to Swat 4; that is it's greatest strength and weakness at the same time. Slow and methodical gameplay is rewarded most of the time (we'll get to that). You can order your A.I. teammates to apply a multitude of gadgets to help you get the job done. They'll stack up on doors, check for traps, breach and clear, and much more on your order. If you're up to it you can even split your 4 partners into two groups and order them to do separate tasks. I've never been good enough to do this, but the few times I've done it I feel like a true puppet master.

Now before I end this review I need to list a few downsides here. The first and most obvious to anyone who as played so far is the enemy A.I.. The devs are still tweaking it, I don't expect it to be perfect seeing as this is an early access game, but they can sometimes pull some John Wick ♥♥♥♥ and shoot you through walls or instantly headshot you even though you gassed them with CS gas. It's a real kick in the gut when you get far on a raid only to get shot through a wall even though you were being slow and careful. Lastly I feel this game borrows too much from Swat 4 for my liking. It's setting is fantastic but if you told me this was Swat 5 and they brought Sierra back from the dead I would believe you.

All in all this game gets one hell of a thumbs up from me. If you love tac shooters and like the look of this game then I can't recommend it enough to you. Plus the modding scene is already popping off for this game.
P.S. they just added a working coffee machine to the lobby, cheers!
