Having launched the game on release: oh god it looks like ♥♥♥♥. I have a 4070ti and a Ryzen 7 5800x on a new build and the game on high. The textures, especially the foliage, switch back and forth to low poly versions right in front of my unmoving camera. Shadows flicker incessantly and there is screen tearing. It legitimately looks worse than CS:1 right now. I'm not sure what build the streamers are playing but my game sure doesn't look like theirs. Not only that but I already get frame drops on a nearly empty city. I don't want to hate, I have 800 hours is CS:1 and was looking forward to this, but I'm not going to be touching this for a couple months while they sort it out. Half of the fun of these are enjoying the aesthetics of your city. You can't do that right now.

Don't buy until they fix it.

The game is a broken, buggy mess. I have 2k+ hours in CK2 and was really looking forward to this coming out. I understood that it would feel bare bones without an amount of DLC that required me to sell my first child but the lack of features is also really astonishing. Once you have stabilized a realm there are large portions of this game where you just set it to speed 5 and wait for truces to end or buildings to construct or characters to come of age.

Let me give you a scenario: I am the King of Pomerania and a vassal of the HRE. I am allied to the Kingdom of Danelaw through marriage and their king is my cousin. The king then declares war on my lord for my title, the Kingdom of Pomerania, despite us still being allied. The AI is ♥♥♥♥ so of course the HRE is losing despite also controlling all of france. Midway through the war the current Emperor dies and I am elected Emperor. So now my ally is at war with me for my title despite still being allied to me. I then immediately lose the war because the territory he controls is directly mine and worth more war score. I lose my primary title and cannot war to take it back without breaking the alliance with the person who just took it from me and it wouldn't matter anyways because they've broken it all up into vassals.

Heresies are just ridiculous. Good luck keeping a large realm Catholic for any period of time before the majority of it converts to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Don't try converting it, it'll only convert back before the 100 years necessary to make it all Catholic anyways.

Bordergore. A constant complaint in CK2 that has not been fixed here. Any 869 playthrough will have mainland Europe looking like headcheese within 50 years.

Ally AI is dumb. I cannot count on fingers and toes how many battles I've lost because my allied AI is standing in the next county over touching itself.

Repeated crashes. Not much to say about this one. I even lost an Ironman playthrough because I can't load the save. No workshop content or anything. Just broken.

Don't buy it now. Wait until you have the privilege of paying 3 times the original price for a game that is (hopefully) stable and actually fleshed out. I'm going to keep playing it in the meantime because I've already paid for it and I have autism.
