The combat is fun and challenging, and it kept me engaged just enough to finish the story...

That said, the textures in the game garbage, and there was no attention to detail when deciding where to put them ("leaf" textures get stretched down the sides of cliffs instead of making them "rock" etc). The animations could use some tweaking, a lot of the enemies movements don't match the environment. And the story.. there is absolutely zero hints given even from the start as to where you should go or what the point of the game is, similar to Mortal Shell, so you have to wander around and hope that were you end up is where you are supposed to be.

This is basically Skyrim on a galactic scale, with a crafting and building system much like Subnautica, and exploration much like No Man's Sky.. not in the sense that there are no loading screens (there are, but they are quick), but in the sense that you can survey planets to gain exp while discovering POIs and side quests.

Everything seems extremely well fleshed out, with some minor annoyances / bugs (nothing game breaking so far) like enemies being able to melee through a door if you're close enough, and you can melee them as well.

You DEFINITELY want to install this on an SSD, the difference is night and day for performance.

I'm hooked, and you will be too. RIP life.

I waited due to the comments about performance being trash, and there are still some issues present (the galaxy map destroys my FPS for instance), but for the most part I am seeing 50-60 FPS running @ 4K res on a mix of high and ultra settings on a 3080 Ti. The only time that drops is when I'm near a crystallized wall, but that's probably due to the ambient occlusion / shadows / etc.

I have yet to see a crash and only been thrown into the air randomly by a guard rail once.

As for the story, it's 100% worth the money, and the combat is extremely satisfying.

Mind=Blown.

The only negative thing I will say is it took me 13 hours to beat the game. Not sure I'd say VR games are worth $60 with only umpteen hours of gameplay. Catch it on sale if you can!

Review for VR only. Game looks great and runs beautifully on my desktop.

I bought this to play in VR, however I spent all of my time trying to get it to run at a decent frame rate. After spending a couple of hours combing through "optimization" threads and tweaking my system settings, I still couldn't get it to stop stuttering with everything set to the lowest setting! Simply unacceptable when I'm running an i7-7700K with an 8GB GeForce RTX 2070 and 16GB if system RAM. Maybe one day they'll get it figured out, though. If / when that day happens, I'll give it another try, because I do like the free roam concept. Fingers crossed..

Edit: To add, I played this on my Oculus Rift S

Coming from a long time FF fan, this is probably the best one hands down. The freedom of movement and real-time combat have become a must for me, and this one delivers both along with a gripping story that will bring a tear to your eye. 11/10 for me.
