Bad Game. ( Unless you are a die hard Square Enix fan. )

Combat: 4/10
Story: 4/10
Dialog: 5/10
Voice acting: 8/10
Visuals: 9/10
Exploration: 2/10

Combat is super boring and dull, had potential but is held back by the Ai enemy and your companions Ai.
All the interesting attacks require you build up meter which is fast for the character you are controlling but extremely slow for anyone else you are not directly controlling. Most attacks feel separate from your party members, they lack any real cohesion. One interesting thing about the combat is the boss fights having specific elemental weakness or weak spots that can change depending on their "attack mode" or boss phase.

The enemy Ai is designed to rush or focus whichever character you are controlling, and this makes building meter with spell-casters a pain and even casting those long spells. Later on in the game you will unlock ways to build up meter for characters you are not directly controlling but by then I have already grown tired of the combat experience.

The inclusion of the "phantoms" to the story feels extremely forced. Most characters, main, sub or just random npcs bring no attention to these phantoms when they appear ( and can be seen by others ) and actively impact parts of the story. They simply ignore it as they make huge impacts to events. Only one villain in the story showed any interest but is then completely forgets about them in the next scene. It feels to forced and the overall story telling is hurt by these phantoms.

It is a Square Enix game so dialog is cheesy and forced. But the voice acting is well done in English and to me fits each character quite well.

The visuals are stunning and so are attack animations and particle effects.

Exploration is very straight forward, there really isnt much there and most of it can be done without back tracking.

Really fun combat and has an amazing art style and setting. Can be challenging at times with large mobs or some boss fights, and very satisfying to overcome the challenge.

It is a small dev team, and they managed to add a lot of features requested by the community. And you can tell it is a work of passion!

If you are looking for a great turn base tactical game look no further
If you plan on getting this game you must get the expansion Enemy Within ; it adds so much to a good game and makes it great.

The game has various classes each with their own specialty including weapons and abilities. The classes are further divided by your choice of abilities. For example you can have the heavy class focus on rockets and grenades to reek havoc with aoe damage and destroy the cover of your enemies , or have them become a support role focus on surprising enemy fire and locking them down, or go for something with high firepower and focus on taking down any single target enemy with a devastating mini gun attacking twice in 1 turn.

The game starts you out at a disadvantage against your enemy. You will have to research , capture and upgrade your way to better technology while managing a small base. The base management is very simple and the research and development of better technology is the key to advancing in the story and game play.

The story is very simple and isn't really explored but still keeps things interesting with dialog from npcs and mission briefings dealing with the main goals of surviving and repelling and alien invasion. The big draw is the game play and it will be the main draw of why you will keep coming back to this game.

Replay-ability is very high for this game , there are harder difficulties and even bonus options that can drastically change how you play. Some of those option include giving soldiers random abilities (can gain skills from other classes) , when receiving critical wounds the soldier will lose stats , or make flanking shots have a greater impact by giving 100% critical hit chance.
