Game has potential, it's beautiful, feels responsive enough, the art style is breathtaking, but it is way too rough when it comes to its gameplay.

The problems
Parry system
This is the biggest issue by far.
Some might tell you that parrying is just "hard" and need getting used to but that's not it. That's not it at all.
There are 2 major issues with the Parry system.

First, the most problematic one, is the amount of conditional required in order to parry. You need to be not too close, not too far, parry at the proper interval according to the hundreds of different animations with no indicators, while facing the enemy, on a tuesday, during a full moon, while doing a cartwheel, etc.
But the worst part about those conditional is the enemy animations. The animations are all over the place. Where one enemy will wind up a swing, stand still for half a second and then strike within a blink where you need to parry, another will forgo the wind up and just swing, another will wind up fake swing, wind up again, then do a slow thrust at which point you're supposed to parry.
It's just all over the place, this would be "fine" if the parry window wasn't a stupidly low 167ms. That's right, less than a fifth of a second to hit the correct parry window in the hundreds of different animations.

Second, the fact that the play style that requires parrying the most is... caster.
In order to fuel your spells, you need to generate focus, you can either do that by attacking an enemy, which generate a small amount of focus, have some gear that give you very limited amount of focus regeneration, which you won't have early on in the game, or... by parrying. Parrying is basically the only "reliable" source of focus and gives a tremendous amount of the resource, about 20 hits worth of attacks with your weapon.
This is a problem, because the whole point of being a caster is usually to stay back and cast spells, this does the opposite. You are hardly casting spells and you have to stay close to parry.

Inventory system
It's just bad. Get rid of this ridiculous item limitation that requires a material needed to unlock weapon and ring slots to expand.

Time gating
Why is this a thing in a game like this? Upgrading a shop is already time consuming by the fact you need to gather the material, there shouldn't be a timer on upgrading it after providing the material.
Furthermore, the whole daily and weekly challenge thing is ridiculous. This isn't an MMO, what is it trying to achieve here?

Stat and leveling system
Choosing between getting more of your damage stat (Strength, dexterity, intelligence, piety) or more stamina or more health or more carry load or more focus...
That is such a terrible design.
It should be decoupled or combined.
Leveling should give you more health and stamina by default.
Strength should give you some extra health on top.
Dexterity some extra stamina.
Intelliegence more focus.
Piety more of whatever, you decide.
Carry load should simply not be a dynamic thing. Simple make it cloth = light, leather = medium, mesh = heavy, with the weapon having no effect on weight class. It's literally that simple.

Gear
Just go back to the drawing board on that one.
The enchant system is bad.

Best Monster Hunter to date, excited for what will be added in the future.

The good
-----------
- Focus Mode, will never be able a Monster Hunter game without Focus Mode ever again
- Improved weapon mechanics (Speaking from a Charge Blade perspective: Axe power mode,
- Wounds, adds another layer to the gameplay but could use some adjustments
- Mount
- Two weapons
- Seamless transition between hunts
- Food and buffs (Like demondrug/armorskin) carry over between hunts and food buff stays even after being carted
- Music and sound effects (Congalala's fart is... very wet)
- Voiced hunter and characters now have names

The bad
-----------
- Nata
- Story is bad, but that's on par for a Monster Hunter game.
- Not using the fun Rise's wirebug moves (Speaking from a Charge Blade perspective: Counter Peak Performance, Ready Stance and Axe Hopper were great)
- No main hub/gathering hub, although this is suppose to come in the first major patch
- Some annoying controls (Not being able to open the map when there's a notification pop-up, of which there are a lot of, or focus mode when stowing your weapon causing your item bar to only show slinger items)
- Artian weapons could be cool but they make regular weapons pointless for most weapon types and forces you to one single ugly looking weapon

Wish there was more than just Yes or No, game isn't all that bad but there are some glaring issues. If they fix enough of them I'll change to recommended but until then, I can't in good conscience recommend it.

What's good:
- Gun and character gameplay is great
- Graphics
- Characters are hot without being over the top ridiculous
- Enough complexity for theorycrafters, simple enough for casuals

What's bad:
- It's Nexon
- P2W
- Many game modes are just bad and annoying
- Compounded RNG
- Story so bad you just skip it

Going into more details if you want to read:

Gameplay is very fun in places while very bad in others. Guns feel snappy and responsive, balance is okay, characters feel different enough with useful abilities, but where it falls flat is in some of its game modes.
Game modes like killing a wave of enemy or the bosses are fun and engaging, while other game modes like defending an inanimate object or escorting the robot is NOT fun, mostly because there is no way to speed up the gameplay, making any progression you've made for your character irrelevant when you are hard locked by a timer. It is also extremely frustrating to babysit an NPC or object in this kind of game. It is simply a game design failure to include mandatory game modes that the average player is going to hate.

As for the P2W aspect, basically you can pay to skip the grind on (almost) anything. An "ultimate" character that would take on average maybe 50 hours to grind can be bought for ~70 USD.
Certain game mechanics exists purely to make money. For example you have a limit on how many characters you can have and that limit can be increased by paying. While it's not too bad of a thing to have to spend 5 or 10$ after you've gotten 300+ hours of game out of it, it is compounded with other game mechanics that purposely slows you down. For example, the ability to skip "research" time to get your items/characters/weapons you are trying to make after farming the materials for them. This is especially bad when talking about mandatory items for character progression that increases your character power level and take over a day of "research" time to make one and you cannot make more than one simultaneously.
It's game design decisions that were made solely for money reasons, not with the player's best interest in mind.
The game is free to play so they have to make money somehow, but there are ways to make money without hurting the game loop as a whole. Reality is... It's a company and companies exists to make money.

Finally, the RNG... Some RNG isn't bad, but without any systems in place to counteract bad luck, RNG only makes the game frustrating and unfun. Things like a pity system for failing to get an item you want after too many tries, or removing items from a drop pool to increase the chance of getting the item you want. They have a "catalyst" (or whatever the name of that item is) system in place to increase the rare items drop chance from the "boxes" but it barely gives any increase and they have such a low drop rate that there is no point in farming them.
But the worst part really is the compounded RNG. Here's an example... to get a character, you need to first drop the "box" that has one of its 4 parts. That box is very rarely a guaranteed drop, meaning you have to repeat the activity that drops it until you get it. Then once you have the "box", you need to do the activity required to open said "box" and you get to roll on which item in the box you get. This is RNG on top of RNG in a game without actual systems for bad luck. It only results in pure frustration.
Having some grind in a game like this isn't a problem, but this is a bad kind of grind, one that can either take you an hour to do with pure luck, or one where you will never finish even after thousands of hours of playing because of bad luck.

Literally just Dragon's Dogma 1 but better in every ways.

The negative reviews either didn't play for more than 30 minutes to realize all the microtransactions DLCs are useless or they tried playing the game on a toaster or with a mish mash of incompatible hardware that would make their GPU melt just trying to run MS Paint in 4k in the first place.

I'm sure there are some genuine thumbs down review out there in this sea of dented steam users, but you'd lose brain cells trying to find one.

DLC is great, 2.0 changes are all great... but

Spoiler warning, the alternate ending provided by Phantom Liberty is even more depressing than the endings of the base game. People have asked for a good ending for V and instead they not only double down on having only bad endings, they triple down on it by making it the most impossibly depressing ending you could ever come up with.

This is why I'm giving it a thumbs down. It's bad enough for me to overlook how good the rest of this DLC is.

I hate it thanks.
Ever wondered what it feels like sitting on a foot long dildo for hours? That's what Remnant 2 feels like when played at the hardest difficulty solo.

10/10, would recommend.
