Hey Crytek, I love this game. Look at my playtime. It's been in a constant state of improvement until a few months ago. I can't in good conscience recommend this game anymore. It feels like every change that's been made in the last few months has been made to fortnite-ify Hunt and chase a new playerbase that won't stick around. I hope you can clutch and revive my faith in this game, but you're on your last chunk of health and your hunter's on fire.

Editing to add, Port Sulphur band is blameless in this and carrying this game's aesthetic really hard with this halloween's new track. Absolute fire, folks.

Early Access Review
My reason for playing this game over dark & darker was because the turnaround time to get into a dungeon was low.
I hopped on this morning to play with some friends. My guys, the gear tier/map difficulty system change puts all of the onus of matchmaking onto the players' time in between games, and it's killed my enthusiasm for the game.

I won't be playing until it's easier to gear and get into a game.

It's a low-complexity, low-barrier-to-entry, Escape From Tarkov. If you like that style of game, you'll probably like this!

I have had some launch hiccups such as server crashes and friends list issues, but, hopefully, this will be resolved as development continues.

I'm breezing through my second playthrough, I have a solid team: I'd been stacking a bear with max-hp-on-kill, armor and hp regen, the biggest halberd I could find, he was a juggernaut. He's in the frontline with his two bear brothers, both support shieldmen. In the backline I have a toxin master beaver, a draw-more hare and a support/regen wolf.

We make it to the prince in peak condition, great armor and weapons all around, full hp. The Prince is also prepared. A full contingent of assassins and royal guard await, and the prince is nigh-invincible until his lackeys are dealt with.
On turn one, my hare goes down to a concentrated assault. A good soldier. But now my wolf is hemorrhaging, I move him out of harm's way and keep him standing on turn 2 only for him to go down to a heartstrike from the prince on turn 3. My bears, my brothers, are holding on, doing good damage and pumping out shield, but it's not enough to save the youngest brother from the next assault.
I take the assassins down, and it's just the prince's guards, my toxic beaver, and the 2 remaining brothers. We hold out for a couple of turns, my beaver's bleeding out and I've taken down 2 guards at low hp. My beaver goes down fighting on the turn we clear another guard.

It's just my two Bears. The middle shieldbearing brother is doing his best to keep the juggernaut oldest alive long enough to take down the last guard, but the damage is still too much and he dies defending his brother. The oldest, in a fit of rage, overkills the last guard and now it's just him and the prince. The prince is vulnerable now, and the juggernaut bear's armor has ramped up his shield and hp regen. This is what he was trained for -- the tide has turned. In a few turns the prince is on his knees and the last member of my party has avenged his brothers.

10/10 would tear up at a story I mostly saw in my head again.

Buy this game. Even though it seems like a traditional shooter, it is not. It is incredibly thought-provoking and well-written, and a stark departure from the Call of Duty or Battlefield franchises.
