If you are unable to get together with your friends and play games then this is absolutely one of the best things out there. Additionally, the fact that you have access to so many games and content to match it really is a great buy. The controls do take some time to get used to but that really doesn't affect the game. The graphics are good for what they are and you can clearly see all you need. Sound is good and you have the ability to load custom music.

Overall 4.5/5

Some slight glitches here and there, which mildly interrupted the experience. Would be best if you had a group that wants to play the game in question as there is no single player mode. Overall great game and well worth the $20 to get to play games with my friends 6 states away.

I played this game back when it first came out. It's fun and challenging, but what is most impressive is the detail to each civilization. They used historical facts to craft a fun and unique experience when playing as a different empire (race). The single player campaigns are some the best out there. You will actually command a historical battle with prominent figures from history. It is online capable, but you can have a really enjoyable time with the game just playing the single player stuff.

The only "negative" that could be said is that it does have a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of things you will find a much more engaging game . RTS games like StarCraft are much more linear and straight to the point, you're building and army to go fight. This game has the same concepts, but goes much deeper requiring you to actually build a civilization and use what makes each empire unique to win. You will have practice and get better to play the game at a higher level . You simply can't hammer on a problem or throw bodies at an enemy, you have to have a strategy. Walls, gates, guard towers. archers, siege weapons, troops, and 4 individual resources to maintain is really what makes this particular game a stand out and a favorite among older PC players.

This why people used to play on PC, you couldn't get this on consoles and it was just fun.

Game play/Fun Factor: 4/5 Tight and satisfying. The learning curve is its greatest strength and weakness. It could turn players away.
Graphics: 4/5 Nothing amazing, but it's clean, clear and you can distinguish what is on screen.
Sound: 5/5 Great. Sounds are good, music is good, and the quality is apparent.
Controls: 5/5 Point and click. Not really anything to mess up.

Overall: 4.5 Give it time and you will find a great game here. A staple in most 90s/2000s computer gamer libraries it is the definition of solid game design and thought.

One of the best series to come out for PC

To me, this is one of those games that made the PC gaming experience better than console at the time. The seires combines elements of an RTS like Starcraft or Age of Empires with RPG elements from games like Final Fantasy and Pokemon. While this sounds like a game without any clear concept, it's actually one of the most satisfying games to play ever. Every decision made affects how you progress, from the team leader you pick to the way you develop your capital.

While it does have a steep learning curve, it's not impossible to understand the concepts. This is not your standard pick up and play game, however, and does require a bit practice and time to really get going. If you have the patience to learn and play through the series it offers tons of replay and gameplay. Unique and fun, I highly recommend this for anyone looking for something fresh.

Fast and fun, that's the best way to describe this game, and one of the best kept secrets in the gaming community. I owned this game back when I had my Windows XP gaming rig, and I even bought the Xbox 360 collection. It's just that good in my opinion. A great shooter that steps up the difficulty as you go without holding your hand. Handles very much like old shooters along the lines of Doom and Duke Nukem, but with its own feel and look. The weapons are great and each one serves its own purpose, depending on the situation or enemies you'll make your choice that way and that's where the strategy comes in.

A pro or a con depending on how you look at it, this game doesn't make you puzzle solve a lot or look for items. It sends you on your way (with plenty of ammo) and bascially just tells you to fight your way from point A to point B. You can explore and there are secrets to find, but this is more about action and twitch reflexes. There are, at points, literally giant, long, rectangular hallways and you will fight off about 500 enemies there, with some levels having an enemy count of 1200 or more.

I love this game for its challenge and straight forward approach. Big levels, big guns, lots of enemies. Clear them out and get to the end. If you are looking for something more tactical and story then I would not recommend this to you. If you are looking for the type of game that gives you tons of insane weapons like a cannon that fires nuclear bowling balls (no exaggeration) and lots enemies to use them on, then start here because this series will not disappoint.
