The most important things, the gameplay mechanics, the overall feel of the game and the controls are really good in this game and and working well together. The beginning of the game feels like a smooth start by firstly introducing the different game mechanics and i never felt overwhelmed by them. Maybe this could happen to newer players of the rogue-like genre, because you're starting the game with 3 different attack moves and a defensive move. The fact that you basically just need one of those attack moves on the other hand helps to ease in first.
Another well done aspect of the game is the level design. Although the levels dont differ that much from each other, the feeling to search for different power ups and the shop help keeping it interesting. Players of 'the binding of isaac' should feel very familiar with the overall concept. I for my part am a huge fan of isaac and therefore really dig the familiar feel in terms of concept and level design. The port of these concepts into a futuristic space setting is really well done and the design of the bending level borders feels great. Also the different challenge rooms and teleport options feel nicely integrated.
Another great aspect is the integration of the hub or world between the levels into the same mechanics. This helps keeping the player immersed by not putting those options into a menu like list (although there are some upgrade mechanics which are handled this way).
I have not played super far yet, but for now the different weapon types and upgrades feel unique and are keeping you always on the hunt for the next best upgrade. Also the difference in themes and level mechanics feel refreshing.
So all in all, im very impressed by the small team of developers who really made an awesome game and im looking forward to new content added in the full release version!
