This "game" is a blatant cash grab where progression becomes nigh-impossible without spending money. I haven't spent money, and therefore, I haven't really progressed despite playing the game for a long while. I was just hoping for an amusing idle game to check in on once in a while, but this game is only frustrating and not fun after the first few missions. Don't waste your time.

A fabulous game designed by the players! It plays somewhat like a cross between Hearthstone and Magic, but the flavor is absolutely madcap with hand-drawn (or MS Paint drawn) art, with chickens, frog knights, eldritch horrors, robots, space marines, and just about everything else you (and everyone else playing) could ever imagine. You can design cards and, if you submit them, they get voted on through a democratic process to be officially added to the game. It's free, it's great, check it out!

The game is endlessly replayable, especially with mods. I am loving some armor and weapon mods that give me new crafting options, but I've also loaded on entire "expansions" that add entire new game zones. A new suite of spells keeps life interesting as well. You see my played hours, well I've yet to get around to beating the main storyline because I keep having cool new character ideas. THAT gives you an idea of how deep the gameplay is. I run this game on a desktop that, several years ago, was top of the line, using maximum graphics settings without any real issue.

What can I say? It's great, and it's impossibly deep once you start delving.

I've played many a CCG card game in my day. Magic: the Gathering since 2001, Hearthstone, and a few other flirtations that I won't bother naming. The Elder Scrolls: Legends (this game) is at LEAST as good as Magic, and has a lot more potential due to the unrestricted and phenomenal usage of what the computer can do.

Cards can become random copies of other cards. Random values can be generated on the fly. What would be "token" creatures in Magic can survive and hit your discard pile for potential added effect, or be bounced back to your hand and replayed. Extra copies of cards can be shuffled into your deck. Maybe you get the idea...

The pendulum swings back and forth on Magic: the Gathering, and right now I don't like the design space it is using. I will adjust and get used to it, but I've found recent iterations jarring and WTF-inducing (pseudo-Commander cards, mutate). Comparatively, TES:Legends has not made me uncomfortable with its weirdness (I'm quite fond of its weirdness), and I'm not exactly sure why. Somehow, the twists and turns of Legends seem like a fun ride.

I read an article that came out a while back saying this game had paused on future development. Frankly, it's too good to let that happen. I plan on spending some money on this game now (at long last) even though it has a reasonably fair Free-to-Play model. That's how much it impresses me with its replayability.

I hope my enthusiasm reaches someone, and my money doesn't fall on deaf ears (or bankruptcy, or something similarly bad). Legends is a great game, and I cannot recommend it enough.

I am a veteran of Magic: the Gathering at this point, having played since 2002. I have followed incarnations of Magic Online and the various Duels of the Planeswalkers games during that time, as well as continuing to play the paper card game. With all of that in mind, I am -mostly- pleased with Magic Duels, but with a few caveats.

PROS:

* Follows the rules of paper Magic
* Good at teaching game basics
* Allows for true deckbuilding, unlike previous Duels of the Planeswalkers games
* So far, the format has been "balanced" power-wise (there are a large number of different viable deck types to play, without too many individual cards dominating the format)
* Games against the AI are not too easy
* Offers 2-headed giant games, an interesting variant gameplay style that encourages different deck archetypes
* Excellent replay value, which has always been true of Magic
* Entirely possible to play for free and earn all of the cards; I know this because I have done it.

CONS: (bear in mind that a big April update may change this)

* The AI is too repetitive in the variety of decks that it currently plays
* The AI uses cards the player does not have access to, which feels unfair
* There is currently no method of sorting decks, using an awkward scroll function that starts with the most recently created deck
* Additional card sorting functions would be extremely helpful for deckbuilding (some sorting options already exist, but even a narrowed-down field of cards can still be a lot to look through)
* Multiplayer matchmaking still has hiccups

SUMMARY: While not without its problems, Magic Duels looks to be a good game to come in early on. It is real Magic, it is really and truly free to play without being pay to win (paying will just get you the cards sooner), and it appears that Wizards will stay the course and continue to expand the game with updates as each new paper Magic set rolls around. You won't see every card in the game (it is its own unique format experience, using a specific card pool unlike any constructed grouping that exists in paper Magic), but the game will continue to grow and expand alongside paper Magic. The investment of time is steep if you want to play for free and earn all the cards, but it is entirely doable. If you're thinking of trying it, go ahead and do it now because it will only be harder to earn the cards if you start playing 3 years from now. ^_~

In a world full of video-card-melting high renders with no story, and a seeming prevalence of real-time strategy as opposed to my much-preferred turn-based strategy, The Banner Saga comes as a breath of crisp, refreshing air. It captures the feel of a different but recognizable world, and pulls no punches with a rough and sometimes fatalistic story. After greatly enjoying The Banner Saga: Factions, I was still faced with new strategies to learn, new terrain setups to master and a series of difficult roleplaying decisions to make.

The art alone would be worth the investment, and the lore poured into the map makes for a fun read. The music is excellent, the combat is generally fun (I am now trying to make my way through on Hard difficulty after beating the game on Standard and Easy, and it is quite a challenge), and the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-esque options will probably keep me coming back for another couple of playthroughs (and trying to finish some of the achievements). It might not be for everyone, but for anyone who enjoys Norse mythology, turn-based strategy, or just a beautifully crafted game I would recommend it. Just don't expect all the characters to make it through unscathed.
