Sony pretending it's not merely a husk of its former self deciding to destroy what's arguably one of the most well loved games it has ever published. Mind boggling, but not surprising given how regressive and baffling Japanese corporations can be sometimes.

Great atmosphere, visuals, soundtrack, etc.

But the core gameplay is a bit of a 50/50. On one hand, it's cool to have a game that's meant to be replayed with multiple endings to explore. On the other, the game doesn't really respect your time and you end up spending a lot of it repeating some of the fundamental aspects. One great example is that there is an ending where you do end up very wealthy, but you can't bring this wealth to your next playthroughs like you normally can (by putting money in your bag and dropping it off).

It's a very small detail but one would think the item would be designed specifically for this kind of situation, where you've achieved the grandest ending and are rewarded for it.

Still, despite many frustrations and never really liking the combat controls, it would be tough for me to not recommend this game. It's worth checking out and is a unique experience.

Extremely frustrating sometimes but would still recommend it if you're a fan of the genre. The game has an atmosphere I haven't seen anywhere else.

This is not a good port of the game. It somehow manages to run worse than the original SNES version, has weird jank (like the camera going choppy when moving diagonally), and feels like a port of a mobile game (because it is). The modern touches all detract from the game rather than add on to it, reducing the overall quality of this classic.

Get it while it's on discount if you just want Steam achievements or something.

Great callback to the golden age of JRPGs while still having plenty of unique features to make it its own game. Everything from visuals, to the surprisingly good soundtrack, to the atmosphere (especially later on in the game ;)) were on point.

My only complaints are the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minigame "wheels" (not sure which developer decided to give NPCs "assassin" and think it's fun to play against) and that there is some backtracking needed for side-quests which this game does NOT handle well at all. You can't fast escape areas you've already beaten even after you should be able to, and will spend time going through tedious and boring areas just to snatch something that you missed the first time around. These two things really soured my experience but the positives more than make up for it.
