This was a reasonably fun game with two modes: mode 1 is 'shoot things' and mode 2 is 'shoot things that you already killed but have already respawned'. If shooting things sounds like fun to you, you will probably enjoy this game.

This was a solid, smallish game. It's a time-loop game that managed to be fresh and interesting throughout through the use of opening new locations and new abilities. In the end, even as some things became familiar, other things were always new. In general, it had several nice, tight cycles of exploration->understanding->mastery that were satisfying to play through.

The theme and story were dark and unpleasant, but the goals your character are working towards were always positive, so it had a real 'light in the darkness' vibe going, even though the dark was very dark.

The ending was a little dissatisfying for me. I guess I can't think of a better ending for the cycle as presented, but it ended up collapsing from fantastical to mundane, which took the edge off of the story for me, and made it sort of toothless. It was heartfelt and realistic, but somehow sort of a letdown at the same time.

Still, a solid game, bouncy music, excellent managing of expectations, and strong themes.

Oh, and I worried it would be both Sexy and Brutale. It was not. It was only Brutale.

I played this game with my son when he was small when the game came out, probably in its old freeware version. I had forgotten it completely, but he remembered several scenes very clearly. We eventually tracked it down and played it again, with some trepidation--would it be as good as he remembered it?

Fortunately, it was! It has its share of standard adventure game foibles (knowing what to click; some unmotivated actions), but generally it's a solid game with a solid story, good characters, an interesting world to explore, many logical puzzles, and some scenes that apparently stick in your head for years ;-)

This was a good, solid followup to Psychonauts. Most of the new crop of kids didn't quite click for me, but the new and old adults were well-written and interesting; the plot was compelling and had a variety of cool reveals, and the end was satisfying and solid. Played the original with my younger son about 12 times on repeat over the course of a year+, and we got to play this together before he heads off to college next month. We were both pleased by the game.

There were lots of interesting bits of story in this game, as well as a reasonable number of interesting puzzles, some satisfying actions, and an overall story arc that felt earned and meaningful. The combat minigames were fine, if nothing particularly special.

It was marred by the presence of some 'read the author's mind' puzzles that made whole sequences enragingly frustrating to play. There were several times I lawnmowered through interacting with everything on the map with everything in my inventory, and nothing made sense even in retrospect as to why this one particular combination of item/item worked an not any of the other item/item combinations.

This means that you're almost certainly going to have to play this game with a walkthrough, which is unfortunate, because it means that you can't trust the game to be fair, and when you can't trust the game to be fair every time, you run the risk of spoiling particular puzzles that *did* happen to be fair, robbing yourself of the enjoyment of feeling clever.

There's nothing particularly new about the interface between this game and Part 1, so your feelings about that will probably remain the same. It's always been a little janky, but in general, you can make it work. There's a very real problem of not noticing an exit or a critical item, which is actually exacerbated somewhat at the end of the game when you gain the ability to change things up a bit and *different* items are suddenly highlighted all across the map, meaning you have to sweep your view-light across the map in all modes to ensure you didn't miss anything.

I'm complaining a lot about this, but I did like it. I appreciated the characters and the story of them coming together, and the payoffs at the end of the story were quite satisfying, the story having laid the groundwork for them well in the earlier parts of the game.

A nice extension of the Subnautica universe, with slightly less expansiveness and sense of danger, but slightly more personality, personalities, and story. I feel like I relied more on a walkthrough for this one, and every time it was because I had missed something, or got lost, or both. I suppose in the end I feel my experience of the gameplay was a bit worse than the original, but my feeling of connection to the game was increased due to the story beats. Definitely worth it in the end for me; I enjoyed my time with this game.

There's two parts to this game: the gameplay and the story. Both are mixed, but overall I enjoyed my time with both.

The gameplay is a mix of turn-based and realtime action/strategy, where positioning your units makes them vulnerable to enemy fire. I tended to approach a given scenario/map as a sort of puzzle,, and enjoyed it in that mode. My son, who played it with me, got a little more annoyed at this--in particular, he was frustrated by discovering mid-combat that something could or could not be done, and having wasted a turn finding that out--we always felt like we should reload at that point. You might have better luck deciding ahead of time that discovery was part of the game, and that a turn spent discovering something was nonetheless a turn well spent. (This might be a bit harder to stick to when you've run your scout out to Do A Thing and then discover that they can't, and they get killed as a result.)

The story was very mixed for us. There were definitely nice scenes with good character moments and story beats. Then there were scenes that just repeated the exact same information you just saw in the last scene, or scenes that made us groan at their implausibility or lack of awareness. On the whole it was a positive for me, and I think with time the cringeworthy scenes will fade in my memory as the better ones stick around. This means it's not always the most fun game to play in the moment, however.

Overall I don't regret my time playing this game, and have fond memories of the better scenes and scenarios to keep with me in the future. But there were definitely some rough bits in there as well.

This was a reasonable game, but you need to have a high tolerance for angst to get through it. My angstometer is not what it was, so I had to take several long breaks before finally making it through to the end, and it kind of felt like a slog. But overall, I enjoyed the characters, and I felt it did a good job of making me feel the plight of the protagonist, being pulled in one way by the need to be a good older brother, and in another way by having your own crap to deal with, while trying to grow up.

A very solid game that I found delightful to play. The core tactical fights gave you interesting problems to solve and a variety of tools available to solve them, resulting in satisfying gameplay. The auxiliary game of choosing which missions to go on and which characters to have perform which in-base actions added a satisfying sense of progress to the overall game experience. The story and worldbuilding were interesting, and the characterizations of your teammates was fun.

There were only a couple times for me when a mission turned too difficult, and I had to reload or rejigger characters (and I'll admit to a certain amount of save-scumming in these situations), and a few bits were busts for me--the 'replace your teammate with a bot' wasn't very useful nor was it interesting for me, and some of the characters didn't fit my playstyle, and seemed like they'd be awkward to try to utilize effectively. But happily I could ignore both of those situations, since you'll always have more characters than you can take on missions anway, so it all worked out.

This was a cute game, and mostly fun for the experience of visiting the world of Psychonauts again, It was pretty short (my play time of a complete naive run-through seems to clock in at 3 hours), and in no way was a 3-D platformer: it's a VR adventure game. You solve puzzles by using your psychic abilities, which means 'aiming at something with your head and pushing the right button'.

I played it on a Valve Index with no problems; my only issue is that 'button A' turned out to not be the button labeled with an 'A' but rather the thumb touchpad.
