As a long time WH fan, this game is a massive fan service with a sprinkling of 'lets get the casuals in' as well.

Campaign is long enough to be enjoyable and not feel like a slog, weapons are varied and fun and suit the lore perfectly. My only gripe is the AI can sometimes be a bit dumb...

PvE is again super fun, customisation is OK at the moment but expecting more to be added, it's great for non-WH players, but there is a lot missing for people who enjoy the hobby outside of the game.

PVP again well balanced (except for TH and Bulwark shield lol) shame about Chaos being locked behind legions, hopefully that will change in the future, not all heavy's were Iron Warriors haha.

Strong 8.5/10 for me, could bump past a 9 with some QoL updates and more varied customisation other than just Primaris equipment.

'Probably the most 40k game ever' is something I hear a lot about RT, and they're pretty much spot on.
Lore, characters everything is done to an absolute tee, on that side of things this game is perfect, literally cannot fault it.

Gameplay wise, I'm giving it more of a 7/10, whilst it does nothing 'wrong' it doesn't do it 'amazing' either. Combat is simple, exploration also simple and easy to navigate. The smaller side quests are done more as a written story than actual gameplay but I didn't dislike that. Combat is more akin to XCOM than what you'd expect from an RPG, anyone going in thinking this will have lots of similarities to BG3 will probably be disappointed, nothing will ever be that deep. But in it's own rights, this game does what it does.

Honestly I'd been following this for a while now and had been moderately excited for it, I then found out it was going to be F2P and my excitement dropped quite a bit, to the point I didn't play on launch.

Normally with modern F2P games you get half a game and then pay for the rest, Once Human seemingly has broken this trend, I am very impressed with how the game is presented, so far nothing has been blocked behind a paywall other than cosmetics, and there's still LOADS you can unlock in game.

Gameplay wise, it feels smooth and well reactive. The 3rd person aspect in the world feels like The Division meets Days Gone, but you don't have to pile 4000 bullets into an enemy to take them down like on TD lol. Enemies are a threat at most points, but so far never to a point where I'm like 'Oh dayum'. The game runs smooth as butter on my system (high end playing in 4k) it does tax my resources to the max and it's currently warm here so my cooler is working overtime, this should be sorted in optimisation later down the line.

Building is fun and very un-restrictive, you can do quite a fair bit so I won't go too much into it other than expect to go mad building some giant condo with turrets and traps slapped around it. It can get a bit tedious with placing some things down as the rotate option is a bit clunky, but not enough to bother me.

Elephant in the room - No this game does not cryptomine, steal your data, take over your PC and make it walk to China or any of the other crazy theories I've seen.

I've played SDV since it came out, on more platforms than I care to remember (mainly on switch, somewhere above 600 hours I reckon) and I can honestly say it is quite easily one of the best games I've ever played.

I understand its 'not for everyone' as it's not a AA shiny graphical masterpiece (lol) and a lot of people will play it for a few hours and not even scratch the surface and abandon it, as evident by some of the frankly ridiculous achievement percentages haha.

The level of depth in this game is insane, farming is such a small part of the game when you truly get into it, but even this is so detailed and complicated when done properly, you end up spending hours on planning the correct irrigation routes, scarecrow placement whilst all trying to make it look neat still! Then you have animals which you have to decide whether to be cruel and fence them off but knowing you can get their resources easier (truffles...) or let them be free roaming around the farm and you finding truffles your pigs dug up days ago xD. Then you take all these products and turn them into more expensive products like jam, juice, mayonnaise and so much more...I can't really explain it all here just play the damn game!

Then you have the community aspect, making friends, getting gifts and experiencing the stories of every character in the town, learning their likes and hates, their locations at all times (creepy) and then going down the dating and marriage route, you can even start love triangles if you so want to haha.

You also have the adventuring side of the game, a simple yet very effective combat system is easy to play but hard to master especially in the more difficult areas, there is basically a roguelite game attached to the main game, which has effects on the rest of your experience...but also you could quite easily miss the whole thing out and play the game as you want, that's the great thing about SDV every choice is your own.

In a world of £70 badly designed games, getting this for a tenner is one of the best deals you'll ever make.

I played this when it came our by 'other means' and on Xbox, there are two main points to the game.

First, the story, game play, characters and pretty much everything in the game is nigh on perfect, like literally it's so in depth you have to learn to read like the peasant you are and things like how you dress, smell and look affect people's attitudes towards you. The story is great and makes you feel involved with the world around you, and the characters in the story and the ones who hang around all are voiced great (albeit a weird mix of UK and central Euro accents haha), the game looks pretty (more on that soon) and even holds up graphically 6 years after release.

Now the other side, since this game launched it has been riddled with performance issues, like not to a level which would make me say don't play it, but enough to be annoying and make a large chunk of the mods that came out at launch focus on improving performance. I have a pretty powerful rig (13th gen i7 and a 4080 FE) and an 8 year old game runs at around 90fps on a 4k 144hz screen, with noticable drops in towns and cities. Don't let this detract from you wanting to play the game though, if you can deal with a few performance drops then 110% play this game.

Look, this game had one of the roughest development cycles ever, it took a VERY long time to get out of early access and a lot of people gave up on it, I remember the days of avoiding walking on a rock because you could fall through the game, or Zombies appearing out of the floors hah.

They made this longer by changing the game engine halfway through development, BUT this was the best possible idea they could have had, since the Enfusion engine was used, most of the graphical and physics based glitches were fixed.

We then entered the days of loot balancing issues, where you would simply just starve because you literally could find no food at all, the rumours of finding apples in trees was 110% a lie and I'm sticking to that, bullets for guns you never found and the zombies were little more than a slow nuisance. But with trial and error this was all eventually 'fixed' and the 1.0 release date came.

Now the game is smooth as butter, zombies are actually scary and even climb fences to catch you, weapons are in places they should be and food is as scarce as it should be (exists but not in copious amounts) base building and farming were introduced which added a little extra fun and longevity to playing sessions, honestly there's more in this game now than you could wave a short stick at :D

The actual reason I still play this game after 12 years of rough development hell, poor patches and broken ankles is the sheer adrenaline it gives you when you're fully geared and you start hearing gunshots nearby, or see another group of players also geared up, do you attack, do you avoid? It really gets the blood pumping and i struggle to find games in the vast genre that is 'sandbox survival' that do this as they all kinda mould into one and are just 'meh'

Long live DayZ the true king of Survival Games.

As a fan of HP and growing up with the wizarding world, this is a huge fan service.

Performance is great, but I have a 4080 so I can't speak for most people only my personal experience.

Absolutely loving this game, there aren't many 40k games which really make you feel like a Space Marine. Ironically 'Space Marine' is the only other game that does.

When you're rocking Termie armour and a cultist fires an autogun which just pings off you, it really feels like you're at the level of resilience you should be, the game runs flawlessly on my 'old' 2070 at 1440p and so far I haven't had any feelings of 'this again' during the missions.

I also like the ship based aspect of the game, with my only issue being not being able to get to all the missions that appear on the star map due to the speed of your ship, however this does also add to the fluff of the game as you can't save everyone, hence Grimdark!

All in all this is a proper 40k experience, if you like 40k and you like turn based squad strategy games, you will 40,000% want to play this so don't miss out!

Early Access Review
Honestly, this is the most immersive WW2 game I've ever played.

Gameplay wise it doesn't do anything too special, for an EA game it's much more polished than you'd expect, there's a few bugs here and there but it doesn't detriment the gameplay. There can be an issue if you get a bad commander however, as it limits how well your squads can work together.

The main draw to this game is the true immersive feeling that you're on the front line, bullets whistling past your head, fellow soldiers being torn down around you by machine gun fire or being blown to pieces by artillery. To counter this you have an incredible level of comradery with the other players, people doing useful shout-outs, medics actually being medics (I know right!) and your squad sticking together to benefit each other.

I am excited to see how the game improves in its early access journey, and to see the devs are so responsive to bugs logged to them is heartwarming.

11/10 will play again.
