So this is probably my most played single player game ever, and it's the one that I always go back to when I get really bored. Its main appeal is probably the ability to rewrite or attempt to recreate history. I have all of the big DLC's and some of the rinky dink ones. The only really bad one is Sunset Invasion (it's just dumb). I'm kind of a history buff, so that's probably why I keep going back to it. Obviously I really like the game, but I also see some issues.

Like most Paradox games, it's got a pretty steep learning curve, but this is definitely one of the more approachable Paradox titles. Very rarely do I find myself in a situation where I'm unable to strengthen my country even as a one province realm (okay, if you get invaded day one by your huge-ass neighbor it's gonna be rough, but by-and-large...) unlike in EU and especially Victoria games.

Sometimes they mess things up on patches; I remember one time they changed some math to do with retinues but forgot to update numbers for Merchant Republics so for a while you could get a ridiculously large retinue army. Merchant Republics are still pretty OP for player characters, but that's another story.

One of my favorite features is that many historical characters have links to their wikipedia articles (e.g. Charlemagne, but also most king level characters and above in starting scenarios, and the more notable dukes and counts).

Obviously the revenue format kinda sucks, but it's just the way of the world now, I guess. Sometimes I feel like Paradox should be a bit more rewarding to folks who buy DLCs piecemeal (there were times during sales where I could have bought the entire game with all DLCs for less than the remaining DLCs would cost during the same sale, but I guess they still got me to buy them, so, whatever).

I have some legitimate gameplay criticisms, but I can't remember any specific ones right now. I will probably update this later when I remember them (if that can be done). Overall Paradox has done a pretty good job improving and balancing the game with updates (for free).
