Whoa, superb game. It's a semi-competitive deckbuilding puzzle game in the guise of a citybuilder, and it just... It just works Really Well. It's intuitive, balanced, fun, challenging. An example of a clever idea executed with perfection.

A perfect game. By turns heart-wrenching, hilarious and sublime. I suppose it's not a surprise, because Meredith Gran's work has always been that to me, but this game is so finely crafted, it's like a year of emotions in a... 9 hour package. Like the protagonist, I was 15 years old in the year 2000, growing up around online forum communities, chat rooms and old school instant messengers, so I guess I'm precisely in the target audience, but I have to believe the emotional heft of this story and these characters transcends the particularities of its setting and presentation. I was briefly sceptical about the Sierra style point-and-click interface, and it does have its annoyances, but I came to love what they added to the game. The art is very distinctly Gran's style, always extraordinarily expressive, but further elevated in animation. Plus, without saying too much, near the game's final moments, it does something I have seen no other game do, to perfect effect; one last sublime, emotional scene in a story entirely made of them.

A lovely little visual novel about a Japanese trans woman being invited to hot springs. It could be a little educationy at points, but the different cultural context kept it interesting for me and, like, hey, it made me cry, so recommended

A short game about solving murders with the power of cyber-Catholicism. It plays like a simple Ace Attorney-style game with the comedy replaced by earnest pontificating about faith and sin. But the systems and interface are very nifty, and the writing is... Decent enough.

Though not without it's fair share of Depressing Melodrama, True Colours feels less cruel than Life is Strange 1 and 2. Alex goes though some times, but some of those times are good, and even like entire chapters go by without anything awful happening to her. Also Steph is there so I loved it. The like, bifurcated, romance routes of the game feel kinda unbalanced, as Ryan is extremely central to the main plot in a way that Steph just isn't, but otoh Steph does feel like a well created, fully realised gay character, especially with the addition of this game's DLC story and her prior appearance in Before The Storm, so my queer little heart was satisfied.

Lovely game! Very emotions!

This is an achingly beautiful game about a young trans woman reaching for family and queer community in early 90s Ireland. The interaction of music and artist and movement is absolutely perfect, and the narrative relatable (like, to me) and compelling. It certainly gets very heavy - I cried about 7 distinct times in the 2 hours it took to play through - but I loved every minute of the experience.

Edit: Wait I found more game, time to cry some more maybe.

Ok so this game got me thinking that more games could be a whole lot more explicit about their themes. But, like, it's not just explicitness, it's also the consistency. This game is mostly funny, often tense and unsettling, frequently affecting, but everything it does explores and advances the central themes of the game, even when it gets metatexual or introduces new gameplay mechanics.

So anyway Anodyne 2 is this beautiful, perfectly designed, exquisitely paced game that tells a wonderful story about what feels like an extremely relevant topic.

A cool mystery in a cool setting! It plays like somewhere between a visual novel and a open world collect-em-up. Probably the most make-you-feel-like-a-detective game I've played, except maybe the Phoenixes Wright.
A great vapourwave aesthetic, but, honestly? Could have been a lot gayer.

It's got wonderful characters and beautiful art and it's fun as heck SO yeah it's good
