Story completely breaks if you beat the final boss on your first play through. Now I'm completely lost as to who all these people are and what their functions are in camp. At least have the other cut scenes you would have gotten play.

Early Access Review
Do NOT listen to reviews that say this game has a great community.

The community is INCREDIBLY toxic. Every single match you will get insulted for your performance, often through out the entirety of the fifteen minute+ match. General chat will answer your questions about the game, sure, while talking about some absolutely vile despicable crap. There are no moderators. There is NO report feature.

Stay Away until this changes.

This game is way more fun to actually play than DBD. Like any asym game it needs to grow and the devs need to show a willingness to listen to feedback. I will come back and update this review if they fail to do that.

Edit: They did none of that. too many fan boys on their discord and reddit would block any and all criticism, so they didn't listen. Games dead.

Just like every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time. Stop defending devs from criticism.

Towards the end of the peaceful, soothing, meditative tutorial mission-- it is revealed that the only way to "leave no trace" and finish your ecological restoration, is to destroy the beautiful landscape you've created to make more artificial and ugly rivers, because rivers are the ONLY way to reclaim any buildings you put down.

Asinine design decision, completely undermines the vibe and flow of the game. I do not understand why they did this.

As a multiplayer strategy game about the most important thing I can think of is on-boarding new players.

The community of this game is hot garbage in this regard. The games list will have "Noobs only please" games, and every single one is filled with pro players just there to noob stomp. It is impossible to learn this game because there is no way to on board with similar skilled opponents. Like any multiplayer game, the campaign does nothing to teach you how to play optimally against humans, nor do tough matches against 'hard AIs' which are trivially easy.

You will literally join games that say "noobs" and then be screamed at by pro players for not being good enough.

In the quest for "difficult but rewarding" some games miss the mark.

This game isn't Darkest Dungeon, It's not Dark Souls, it's just unfair.

The game will actively cheat to steal victory from you; enemies draw more cards than you, play more cards than you, and even have more cards in their deck than you could possibly have earned by that point in play. To top it off, they don't have to worry about their units dying, but your cards actually get taken away from you if they die in combat twice, meaning they can play recklessly and you can't. Player items provide passives that are worse than the passives the enemies get for free, and are of course random drops so the fact that a huge portion of them are nearly worthless in the wrong build is back breaking.

Speaking of builds, you can't have one. Because your cards are actively being taken away from you, sometimes even from random events, you have no prayer of having any sort of synergy. Not to mention being locked in to a starting deck in every run that is crammed full of cards that have nothing to do with one another. Ostensibly the game expects you to filter your deck down, like any good card game, but in practice the opportunities to do that are too few and far between for the leader deck, and you are discouraged from doing it with convoy cards on account of, again, the constant glut of your units owing to death.

Because your leader's health is the health bar of the run, tons of effects and items are about armor, healing, etc.-- But that's all irrelevant. Even if you leave yourself open the enemy preferentially targets your units instead of your health bar. I constantly pray they will attack me directly instead of taking my cards from me, but they always chose the latter.

In order to move along the map you have to spend food and happiness, standard fair, but the game buys into being a roguelite too much. I have had several runs where I haven't had a single luxury good drop, or be purchasable in a shop, causing me to "starve" on happiness before even reaching the end of the first zone. Whats more, the game will give you a dangerous event to replenish food stores if you run out, but no such trigger exists for luxury items, seemingly.

I super enjoy difficult games! I've done every kind of challenge run imaginable in darkest dungeon, I try nearly every souls like that crosses my desk, hell I even did the golden potato challenge, if you remember that. This game isn't difficult, it is unfair, and I do think I can speak with some confidence on that.

I almost never feel robbed by a roguelite game, but this one stole 25$ from me and spite in my eye for the trouble.

This is not yet a 15$ game and while I think the developer is going to continue to improve it, I don't currently recommend it at that price.

The two main reasons are,

1) there is no speed up button, and playing this game correctly takes for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ever. Like, seriously, the waves drag on, creating vast gulfs in time between you making any kind of gameplay decisions.

and

2) there isn't actually very much interesting in it's rogue-lite xp tree. Every single tower just has "more damage" and "added bleed/poison". Thats it. Damage and maybe added bleed. There are no interesting effects, or things that change the way your build go. Personally I want a rogue-lite to feel different every run, in this game I am always building the same-- sometimes I don't unlock a tower I like, but there are no weird build around rare drops that significantly change things.

I hope the developer adds a speed up button, at which point I will recommend this game at a lower price tag. If the developer adds a speed up button and more variety to the rogue like tree, then I will happily recommend it at full price. Hell, this game could go up to 20$ easy with those changes.

Early Access Review
Tons of potential here! But not every early access game with potential actually makes improvements, so I will change my verdict as it improves. My problem was:

It took 90 minutes and three runs for me to get a run that was so perfect I hit the, what I believe to be, insta-death creature-- Given that it rushed across the screen and killed me instantly and looked like a grim reaper.

Assuming that is what it is, what this game needs is more late game challenges to surmount. You have limited items, so if you have a "god run" you hit the cap, stop getting items, and just tick up the clock. Your gold goes up and your number of kills go up-- But the thing that makes you chase that god run high in a rogue-like is climbing the next mountain, and the next, and so on. Challenges that you couldn't beat before that maybe, this time, you can!

Either this game needs more challenges to hit in a run, or maybe just remove the item cap so I don't feel like I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs. Cool secrets to find might do it as well. Frankly, all I need is reasons to come back to the game. As it stands I will come back to this game in the future, once or twice, but for now I feel like I already beat it.

This adorable little game is the perfect way to wind-down after a particularly stressful day. The characters are immediately endearing, the plot is stupid in a good way, the puzzles are just hard enough to hold attention, and it clocks out at almost exactly an hour of play time.

You might be concerned that it being about a Harem of demons and it being free means it's one of THOSE games, but the harem stuff is played for a joke and never goes too far. Ultimately you feel you're playing an adorable game, not a creepy one. Though it still does hint at explicit themes, and there still are cute demon girls to flirt with.

I don't normally write reviews, but this game was a bright spot at the end of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ day, and it means a lot to me that the creator put so much heart into such a small project. Thank you very much!

As someone who puts hundreds of hours on a good rogue-like, this is the best... rogue-lite? I don't know the terminology. Whatever. It's the best game in the last 10 months. However it doesn't have 300 hours worth of potential play like some in the genre. I hope there's more coming down the pipe from this developer, either updates for this game, or more games.

This is fun. Buy it.
