A cool tech demo that's really great at setting mood and shows a lot of promise for the eventual full game that the team are meant to be working on. I generally enjoyed the puzzles and found myself suitably on-edge throughout the experience. Clearly takes a lot of inspiration from the classic 90s survival horror games, but has plenty of identity of its own. I was able to complete it in just under an hour, but for only three dollars I think that's fine. It's not as satisfying as a full game, but more so something to whet your appetite for their future projects.

Some gripes I had that didn't really hinder my experience but I hope can be used by the developers to improve their future games. This is one of the most promising-looking projects of this type and I only hope to see them grow and polish up their eventual full game. There are some minor spoilers below as well for those that haven't played.

- The camera work is mostly great, but occasionally has a tendency to completely obscure the player from view between scene transition. Ideally the camera should transition just as (or even before) the character is moving offscreen. Some angles also don't do a very good job of directing the player toward which paths are open to exploration. It's great to see more developers embracing fixed cameras as I believe they offer all sorts of advantages over a free, open camera. But they do require care in their placement.

- Shooting enemies is not a major part of the game in this demo, but what is there doesn't feel good at all. The enemy hurtbox is so tiny that you can seem to be aiming at them and still miss. In old-school survival horror games like Resident Evil or Silent Hill you generally only needed to be aiming somewhat in the direction of an enemy to hit them thanks to large, generous hurtboxes. Also the sound effect for the gun is really weak and unsatisfying.

Beautiful beat 'em up that delivers fun, satisfying gameplay with healthy replay value that doesn't rely on bloat. A single playthrough is fairly short, but multiple difficulties and tons of unlockable characters offer a good reason to keep coming back. Catchy music in a variety of styles and great visuals. Biggest complaint are the silly, mercifully short cutscenes the game would frankly be better without. I'm fine with them in the story mode, but the arcade mode at least should just skip 'em.

DMC returns after ten years and retains its spot as the pinnacle of action gameplay. Once again Itsuno and co. at Capcom bring us a tightly tuned battle system rife for player expression as you string together a wide variety of skills. The number of ways to play is only limited by your own imagination. On top of this DMC5 is easily the most stunning looking game to ever release in this genre, with beautifully rendered character models and cutscenes that look so impressive at times it's hard to believe they're running in real-time, and all in a well optimized package tuned for 60fps (or higher!) gameplay. Though you will need at least a semi-modern system to run it well. No fan of action games should miss out on it, nor anyone who enjoys over the top spectacle with a dash of playful humor.

I got this while it was on sale for $5, which with the shipping ended up being closer to $13. Even then though it's still a fantastic product for that price. Even overy my home's wifi I wasn't able to notice any aggressive lag and only a slight loss in image quality. And over an ethernet connection it performed beautifully. It was incredibly easy to set up and only took a few minutes to get working and into games and works great with emulators too if you set up shortcuts for them. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for reflex intensive games, but for slow paced or turn-based games it's a fantastic solution for bringing games around the house. The easy controller support makes it good fun for some local multiplayer too.

The standard $50 asking price is pretty steep, but I would say to keep your eyes peeled for more sales and definitely get it on the cheap if you can.

Played the first chapter and boy am I glad it was free. I spent somewhere between ten and fifteen minutes walking through an empty building searching for hiddden objects. Nothing happens aside from the occasional popout 'scare.' It lures you in with the promise of an old cartoon aesthetic, but never actually delivers aside from a few posters and art assets (liberally reused) throughout the otherwise dull looking environment. At the end it seems like it might actually get to some real gameplay, but ends before ever actually doing anything.

Perhaps the other chapters improve, but the game fails to make a good first impression.

Superemely relaxing, Card City Nights is the perfect game to go to when you want something to help ease your mind after a stressful or tiring day. The consistently charming dialogue, endearing art-style and the low-stakes nature of the plot will bring a smile to your face. The laid-back jazz and hip hop infused soundtrack is perfect for spending those lonely, quiet nights. The game is surprisingly meaty given its low cost. It took me about 10 hours to play my way through the main story, and there's some post-game content to clean up as well.
