This one hits all the right notes for me. Enter a rogue-like, sci-fi dressed third person shooter with enough variety and nuance that any given run on any given character will feel all just enough different than the prior. Mechanics are high skill high reward, monster familiarity is rewarded. More of the same that made RoR1 great and I look forward to picking this up with friends on the odd game night ever onward.

I picked this up as soon as I could on the steam store. Almost a decade down the line the game is only marginally different. Ambitious beyond it's scope, a tremendous undertaking of trying to make a Zombie survival game. At this price I'd direct you to other titles in the genre with more charm and a healthier life cycle in development. If the fact that this "early access" game came out on the store almost a decade ago doesn't tell you everything you need to know, I can't help recommend anything to you.

Zombies are bullet sponges from word go, their pathing is janky, and loot never quite feels worth the expense of the trip. Dissonant mechanics and tones in game play. There are many other zombie games I'd recommend picking up with friends as this one isn't worth the price of admission, nor the costs and fees required to host a multiplayer server. Miss me with this one.

Too little too late and two steps forward three steps back at every stage of development. Early access for two additional years and not much to show for it. Combat AI ranges in a bandwidth of "Absolutely brain dead" to "I'm looking at someone else, but I've just headshot the player." and with little warning in between. It took several patches for them to code shield walls correctly. Mod support and a Steam workshop could save it but the outlook is bleak for both the game and the genre really. Purchase on sale and avoid the multiplayer, it's pretty barren these days.

So what does 43.99$CAD get you? Not even the full price of admission. Gotta shell out 200+CAD$ for that. Emblematic of micro-transaction models that read as troubling. Playing on any but the base line difficulty will have the AI cheat to keep pace. Rubber-banding difficulty wasn't acceptable in the Nintendo 64 era of gaming, when did we normalise this? Some interesting mechanics and thrilling visuals but not worth the cost. Fun with friends I suppose.

Pales in comparison to the first in the series, and emblematic of problems that will plague the series going forward. Only fun with friends. Low replay-ability. Grind driven. Bullet sponge nonsense. Low-brow comedy. Low pathos and emotionally manipulative. The series is all downhill from here.

Fast on it's way to eclipsing my time spent in Darksouls 1, 2, 3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro all put together. I've put the time in on each of these games across multiple platforms and each time it comes with a glowing endorsement from me. This time it really is best described as pulling all the best parts from their Soulsborne titles. The par excellence in environmental story telling. Good fun to talk about with friends as everyone reads the lore at different paces. Check it out for yourself and prepare for some difficulty and elation.

Been a long term fan of Rockstar's rooty-tooty-point-and-shooty Cowboy game for while. All I have to show for it is an open and closed story that's really heartbreaking and good, but also an opportunity to spend a great deal more money trying to play online with my friends. Fleece someone else for cash Rockstar. That Grand Theft Auto + approach is morally bankrupt.

Suppose you were given the agency to shape a Post-apocalyptic renaissance in the city state of your choosing? Would that future look more military or egalitarian in it's power dynamics? These are just some of the themes and questions that Techland's follow up to Dying Light.

But let's not pretend you're here for the thought provoking story. You've heard about it's par excellence Zombie-fighting, parkour infused, high octane gameplay. Well it's here again. More of what worked is good. An improvement on the formula.

I used to think that first person perspective parkour couldn't be improved mechanically past Mirror's Edge and other movement shooters. I think that perspective was naive after this game. Worth the price of admission and I'm in danger of putting more time in it then I did the first game.

So after 25 hours I've put the wraps on the "campaign". The "Heroic" single player experience that just left more questions then resolved any answers. What do I have to show for my time? An empty over world, as wide as an ocean but with all the depth of a puddle. Oh and I suppose an opportunity to spend more money I guess? They've sequel baited hard but I can't help but feel like I'm good after that. Should I be thankful for a chance to spend anywhere between 29.99-69.99$CAD for a multiplayer season's pass and any other story 343 wants to shovel out the door under crunch and after release? The story itself, well, having slept through Halo 4 and Halo 5 I admit I had a bit to catch up on. It felt like it was writing a lot of love letters to Halo's 1-3 but more in the way that someone shoots you a wink and a nudge in reference to something that happened and I found it completely bereft of gravitas. The single player bosses were bullet sponges. The affinity enemy bosses have for surviving "mag dumps" to the bare face pulls me right out of it really. I say this even as a fan of the novella short series.

I find the Multiplayer formulaic and rehashed. Same old drivel. If you've played the Master-Chief Collection you've also played this. It's only a multiplayer release for now and I admit I'm mostly interested in single player. Multiplayer maps are nonsense. My limited experience thus far has had me spawning next to players that have been playing this game since November 15th as though they had little else going on in their life. Working full time means that I look for a little bit more of a beginners bracket when I first start to learn a game, quick play thus far disappoints.

The season's pass model is demonstrably devious. It tries to hit everyone in their fear of missing out. Categorically it's false scarcity. It's imposing artificial timelines on pixels and I find it fundamentally bereft of a moral conscious. It's anti-consumer and masquerades as being long-term support for a dev-house that isn't starved for cash. It's a mobile phone game model on a "quadruple A" budget game. Maybe the Single player experience will be worth it. I can't wait to hear about how 343 was put under tremendously toxic work cultures and crunch. Miss me with this one.

(Edits for spelling and grammar) So real quick, if you were to splice Resident Evil 4's Action-horror-camp, Resident Evil 7's immersive dread and a little classic horror mythos you'd have Resident Evil 8: Village. You'll feel somewhere between Van Helsing and Red riding hood as you fend off Werewolves, Vampires, Frankenstein's monster and Swamp creatures. The "absence" of zombies might put a bee in someone's bonnet, but what even IS a zombie but a shambling revenant with a desire to cause you harm unto undeath right? No shortage of those really... A return to form in many ways, and a preservation of what's worked when Capcom has pushed the envelope and tried new things. Glowing Endorsement.
