Free tip for Intel CPU owners: use task manager or Process Lasso to force the game to run on only the P-Cores. In case you are not GPU bottlenecked this will give you a nice performance boost and more stable frame times.

EDIT: changed review from negative to positive.

They finally fixed widescreen for 21:9. If you are still having issues make sure to disable the "dynamic" DLSS setting, seems to be a bug with it.

Open problems:
- 32:9 ultrawide apparently super stretched
- no FOV slider in 2024 (no words)
- no native HDR support

Overall the gameplay does not disappoint. It's simple, it's brutal, it's super fun. Graphics and world are gorgeous.

Incredible boring game. Story is so bad I stopped paying attention a couple hours into the game. Characters are so dull and uninteresting, they could have replaced them with refrigerators and gave them numbers. Combat feels like every other hold LMB casual shooter.

If you want challenging boss fights play Elden Ring, if you want a challenging shooter play Returnal. I give this game a 5/10 and have no desire to ever play it again after beating it.

Edit: review changed after 150h

I would give this game a neutral rating if Steam had it. The core gamepaly is fun and action packed, but there are just too many bugs. Bugs that have been in the game for months. Just lost another mission to a fuel shuttle not arriving. Why is it, that every time I come back to this game I instantly get hit with a bug like game crash, mission terminal not activating or some other random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? The developers had around 5 months by now to fix the game, but instead they always introduce new bugs.

Great remake! I enjoyed the main game + DLC. Get the REFramework mod with DLSS upscaler though for better graphics.

The puzzles are fun, but the developers certainly smoked too much robo crack when they designed this game.

Setting: apparently humanity died to a virus, some scientists developed humanoid robots shortly before that and created "artificial" consciousnesses for the robo humans via a simulation (I know the developers are trying really hard to promote the question of what is artificial and what is real). Mix in greek mythology for an extra portion of smart.

Funny that you don't see a single animal in the game (so far) but one of the robo humans has a profile picture with a cat (gotta put social media in the game because it's cool). Thousands of years after the extinction of humans and domestic animals, but Mr. Robo has a profile picture with a cat. Sure thing.

The pseudo philosopical questions are just there to sound intelligent and a lot of times don't make any sense. E. g.: "Will everything turn eventually good?" Define "good". One mans "good" is another mans "bad". And asking about "everything" just turns this question even more silly.

Also the dialog just feels completely off. Like I'm talking to some edgy teenage robo kids.

I recommend this game for the puzzles and the great graphics and the great price. Not a fan of the budget philosophy and the nonsensical setting.

Update: I forced myself to finish the game after a big break. I stay with my 6/10 rating, the game has way too many problems.

Funny to log in after 2 weeks just to have your weapon downgraded because of "PvP balance" (PvP is a joke in this game, don't get the game for PvP). And have god mercy on your computer once you reach end game, the traversal stutters are insane even on a high end rig. Spawning the same enemies en masse over and over is literally all the developers can come up with. They created a visual stunning game but failed at the core Souls fundamentals. Whoever rated this game a 10/10 or 9/10 has either received a large sum of money or drools themself while tying their shoes.

Also shoutout to the donkeys who praise the developers for pumping out a patch nearly every single day. We better don't talk about that the devs destroyed the save files of a lot of players as a side effect and downgraded player characters due to a co-op bug. Also that they can release a patch every day to fix crashes and other obvious bugs totally does not mean the game wasn't play tested at all. Yeah but good job devs! /s

I would give this a "it depends" recommendation if Steam had that option. Get it at a reduced price and do not buy it for co-op or multiplayer. Buy it if you want a single player experience and can accept that you will fight large groups of the same enemies over and over.

Original review:

Great souls like with amazing graphics and a lot of problems:

- performance is pretty bad in some areas and lots of stuttering
- crashes (was fine in the beginning, now I'm at like crash #20)
- bad game design i. e. hoards of enemies are thrown at you and perma CCing you
- the developers love this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ambush situations where a mob just hits you from around a corner without any counter play the first time
- annoying range mobs that shoot at you while you get swarmed
- constantly fighting environment aka getting pushed over a cliff by some monster from behind
- atrocious target lock that gets you killed more often than it helps
- you can only jump while sprinting, so enjoy falling off a cliff that you are trying to jump while standing. Bonus points for having the "pick up item" key the same as the jump key: want to pick up an item fast while running towards it? Too bad you just jumped off the cliff.
- totally obscure quest lines that you have to look up in wikis and youtube videos to know what to do (the game doesn't tell you anything). Just to find out after 2 hours of running around collecting quest items that you locked yourself out of the quest end by progressing too far

At times it feels like 7/10 deaths are to some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like getting stuck in a cluster of monsters or getting pushed down a cliff for the 1000th time. While the actual fights aren't even that challenging, it's just the cheap "add range mobs that shoot you from off screen" or "let's make the player fight on a small platform while spawning 5 enemies on top" that adds "difficulty".

I hope the devs can fix some one the problems, the core game is really good and it could easily be a 8/10. At this point I give it a 6/10 because of all the problems but I'm still having fun.
