Since "MechWarrior 5: Clans - Trials of War DLC" essentially "instant action mode" is now free, I can recommend this game.

Extremely long early access, months after the launch the game is abandoned.

Recommended the dragons are fun.

The game is great. DLC prices and management issues don't change the fact that the base games are good and worth it.

This game is a masterpiece. The mechanics and systems in this game are well done. If you are coming from the AOW fantasy games prior you must give this one a chance. The atmosphere can be a bit off putting at first but the game most certainly grows on you as you play and discover how all the systems work. If coming from previous AOW games just remember you are a space colonist not a fantasy race.

All of the factions are all interesting and well done. The battle mechanics are extremely detailed and well done, sort of like x-com.

Do you want to play more typical human space colonists with all kinds of kinds of armored/mech units(vanguard)?
how about a race of bugs that can melt armor and do psionic attacks?
or how about an intelligent/deceptive race of lizard like invaders with advanced technology and sabotage?

Heroes and units can advance and level up with heroes being much more detailed.
Developing your colonies and sectors is far more detailed then AOW3. Multiple victory conditions are possible with non combat victory conditions being satisfying and vastly improved over previous games. Objectives give a sense of progression toward your ultimate goal your victory conditions.

Mechanically this game is far superior to AOW3 in just about every way, whether its combat, diplomacy, empire building, etc.

The expansion content and factions are 100% worth it. They add more variety to an already game.

The gameplay is addicting as you grow your empires. I wish I would have played this more earlier on, just give this one a shot it will grow on you and you won't regret your purchase.
