Super fun gameplay loop. Quick to learn, difficult to master. If you like auto-shooters like Vampire Survivors, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor etc then you should love this. Also great value for money with its low cost.

Early Access Review
I don't normally write game reviews this soon after starting to play a game but DRG:S (Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor) isn't a difficult game to review.

DRG:S is easily categorised as an auto-shooter in the vein of Vampire Survivors. Gameplay is straightforward, you control your dwarf's movement. You move around the map, mining minerals, kiting monsters while your dwarf automatically shoots them. As you collect blue sparkles you level up and are presented with multiple options for upgrading your weapons or other stats like movement speed, pickup range, etc. Though it sounds simple, and on the face of it, it IS, there's a huge range of variety and complexity in how you progress your build.

The graphics are gorgeous and thematically the game fits perfectly in the Deep Rock Galactic universe. Sound and music also perfectly fit the DRG theme.

Shying away from the trend for early access games to cost a ridiculous amount of money, DRG:S is very accessibly priced at £7.99 and represents excellent value for money. The gameplay loop is addictive and this definitely one of those games you'll pour hundreds of hours into.

Perhaps the best sci-fi RPG ever made? Graphics have been polished a bit over the original release but runs fine on steam deck.

Picked up Days Gone for a great price in the steam summer sale.

Beautiful looking game with an engaging plot / storyline. Reminds me in many respects of The Last of us on PS4. 10 / 10 would recommend if you have any interest in post-apocalyptic open-world game settings.

Charming little city-builder game with a rogue-like/lite mechanic that makes it unlike any other city-builder I've played.

Beautiful graphical style that reminds me of Warcraft / World of Warcraft / Torchlight / Inkbound. A soothing soundtrack and an engaging gameplay loop. Have only played it for a few hours but I suspect that there's a LOT of long-term replayability in this game.

Well done developers, future classic on here hands here.

Great chill game that would probably run on a potato. Not aware of any other game like it - One of the indie hits of the year for sure.

Back in the 90's one of my favourite games was Smash TV - a twin-stick shooter. What do you get if you marry a twin-stick shooter with a Rogue-lite games? You get Enter the Gungeon.

Many people will be put off this game by the 16-bit Retro-Aesthetic but personally I've always liked the look, having grown up in the 16-bit era with Atari, Amiga and Sega Megadrive. Realistically the 16-bit look nowadays is nothing like back then due to shaders and other graphical effects lending the game a polish that would never have been possible on a Sega Megadrive or a Nintendo SNES.

Looking past the graphics the gameplay is tight with pixel-perfect maneuvering and millisecond timing required to navigate rooms with different sizes, shapes and obstacles while engaging multiple enemies and avoiding gunfire and explosions while utilising techniques such as a dodge-roll or table-flips for some limited cover.

Levels are procedurally generated and culminate in a boss-fight so you always get a fresh experience. Along the way you pick up an assortment of weaponry and can buy upgrades or items in the shop - how far will you progress this run?

Add in a pounding disco soundtrack and frankly this game is a bit of a winner.

Traditionally I've always been a fan of "Tower Defence" games on mobile phones and never really considered exploring the genre on PC. I started getting lots of recommendations for Bloons TD 6 probably because of the winter sale and the deep discount which I think equated to 90% off.

Bloons TD6 is a content-heavy, colourful delight of a game that provides a lot of bang for your buck. I can tolerate the in-game currency as its not pushed in your face all the time and the game is very much not pay-to-win... You can safely ignore currency purchases if you just want to play the game.

With a large map selection, extensive range of monkeys (towers) and large skill trees and modifiers for your monkeys the game provides a ton of variety and will keep you engaged in the long term, whether it's via shorter sessions of playing 1-2 maps at a time, like I tend to, or whether you want to binge and have long sessions.

demonstrates a sample of gameplay on the medium difficulty mode on one of the more basic map designs.

I wholeheartedly recommend this little gem of a game.

Spelunky 2 offers a classic rogue-like experience. You will die lots. Over and over and over again. But you'll learn from your mistakes. Over iterations of gameplay you will get further, you will do better. Spelunky 2 makes that repetitive experience extremely enjoyable; Graphics are cute, adorable even, Sound is charming. Controls are crisp and precise. It becomes effortless to perform complex run-jump-grab acrobatics with extreme precision.

Regardless of whether you bought or played Spelunky 1 you should consider Spelunky 2; If you liked Spelunky 1 it's more of the same but with more variety. If you never played Spelunky 1 you haven't missed anything by not playing it, you may as well get Spelunky 2 first.

I can't think of a single negative aspect of this game to be honest. Great gameplay, Good graphics and sound. Great longevity. Great challenge. Reasonable price. There are many games that tick these boxes and I wouldn't really like to say you'd be better off with Spelunky 2 than say Rogue Legacy 2. They're both great games but play slightly differently. Spelunky 2 certainly deserves a place in any serious gamer's collection though, and casual gamers too for that matter.

Played with an official Xbox One pad on Windows 10. Ryzen 2700X, 1080Ti, 16GB ram. Would probably run on a calculator it's that undemanding.

Squadrons is the long-awaited return of the Star Wars franchise to the space-simulation/dog-fighting genre. It's a genre that has historically always been pretty sparse in terms of contenders. Squadrons absolutely has a place in the new landscape of space-sims though. It's an excellent foundation as it currently stands. It feels atmospheric, the ships handle as you'd expect them to. Combat is meaty and satisfying. Game-play is addictive and is even better with friends and voice-communications.

The game plays nicely with joysticks and even had default sensible keybinds for all the buttons on my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro stick. Graphics are beautiful and the game runs smoothly while having reasonably high settings (Ryzen 2700X, 1080Ti, 16GB RAM). Loading times are reasonable from a conventional hard disk. Sound is rich and atmospheric with voice-overs, sound effects and music serving to immerse you deeply in the game and the Star Wars Universe.

I say foundation because while the current package offers great value for money with a campaign, multiplayer vs AI fleet battles and purely multiplayer dogfights in a 5 v 5 format there's not a massive amount of content in terms of ships or maps. It feels like there's plenty of scope for more to be added down the line though and as it stands I believe there has already been some new content added since the game launched, in the form of two new ships and a new map. While I would be delighted if new content continued to be added regularly at no extra cost I'm also not opposed to more substantial content appearing in the form of DLC. The initial price of the game is reasonable enough to justify extra cost for future DLC and the absence of micro-transactions is to be applauded.

As it stands I would give the game a score of 85 / 100 and the only reason it loses points is the slightly limited range of content as it currently stands. I would genuinely emphasise though that this should not put you off buying the game at all as they have already demonstrated an intent to support the game post-release.
