It's been generations since the cataclysm. You return to your cabin with your kill over your shoulders. You speak the customary greeting to your family "Orange Man bad" they all respond with the expected hollow laugh. You wonder why you still do it, why your parents and their parents did it. Everyone has heard the children's stories of the Orange Man, but none of the adults believe in him. In all your years you've never seen any evidence of the bald giant with tiny hands and a sickly orange hue, who eats babies straight out of their cradles and tears the heads off livestock. You've never heard of anyone who actually claims to have seen him either. But you are a superstitious man in a superstitious world. You say the words to reject him, and laugh to show your lack of fear, which keeps him at bay for another night. Everyone does, because they don't want to be the first to get a visit from the Orange Man.
