Originally released in 2004, this game was revolutionary to the FPS genre for its time. Tight mechanics, amazing game play, puzzles, level design, and the tech still holds up today.

Also, Valve recently updated the game for its 20th anniversary with some QOL and graphical updates. Definitely worth a play through whether you're new or an ol' veteran of the franchise.

10/10, would smash a head crab with a crowbar again and again.

I mean... killing bugs, robots, using awesome weapons, calling air strikes, friendly fire sillyness, music and mood that hits, amazing visuals, ease of getting in to a game straight away, a fair battle pass system with a premium tier... it's just so much fun, what else is there to say??

I would discourage anyone looking for a solo game experience, this is very much made and geared towards cooperative play. You can def try solo runs, and they are possible, but you will be missing out on a large portion of why this game has been fun; for cooperative gameplay!

I'm doing my part, now it's your turn!

Most of my play time is on the BNet launcher, just double dipped so I can take advantage of the shader cache performance boost when I play using my Steam Deck.
Flat out; launch was great, season 1 balance patch sucked, season 2 is awesome!
On another note, you have to like rolling new characters each season to get the most out of this game. I used to be hesitant back in Diablo 3, but after giving it a go I really enjoy it. The seasons give you a lot of new toys to play with your build, and make the replay experience fun.
If you like ARPG's, this game will give serve you tons of fun. The story and ambiance is a huge improvement from D3 (dark and gritty like D1 and D2), and you'll be smiling as you're slaying through hordes of monsters. The devs have proven they are really listening with season 2, and I believe the future of D4 is bright.

SPACE MAGIC, 'NUFF SAID!

But seriously, this game has come a long way. It was unfortunate that it had to go through its growing pains all over again, as it did in Destiny 1, but the game is in a pretty good spot at the moment. There is plenty to do and plenty to work towards, even without having to purchase the expansions (though I highly recommend you do).

One major con is it doesn't do a great job boarding on new players, and the game can be overwhelming and confusing. I recommend that you play through quests Red War, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind in this order to help you figure out what's going on with the story.

Wow, this is a great game! I played Dauntless first to see if I would enjoy this type of game. The analogy I would use is in Battle Royale games, you have PUBG to Fortnite. I'd say this would be similarly compared the same way with Dauntless. Dauntless is fun, but it feels like it is missing some depth. Here is where MHW steps in.
- Combat has so many more options in move sets for players.
- The monsters you hunt have many more dynamic behaviors. It makes combat much more intense.
- Crafting system is there, but there's a lot more of it.

It's been fun playing with my friend too, but we did have some difficulties playing together in the early part of the game. Seemed reasonable, as it wants to teach you some things first before opening it up. It really didn't take that long before we were playing together and having a blast hunting monsters together.

There is probably more I'd like to add to this, but this is where I'm at with the game at this moment. I'll update my review accordingly, until then I highly recommend this.

Early Access Review
The best arena shooter on the market, and it's free! Been playing since closed beta, and this game has been going through changes and refinement. As of the time of this review writting, the developers have been pushing out updates each month; new champions, new content, bug fixes and gameplay balancing.
I will admit that abilities in Quake had me kinda iffed at first. With the latest balance changes, abilities feel much more utility versus an F-to-Win button. Great and welcomed change by the community at large.
Speaking of community, it's not as large as other multiplayer shooters but it is a healthy one. You're bound to run into some toxicity, but most good Quake players are welcoming and even encouraging of new players.
Give it a shot! If you need some help or tips, feel free to message me and I'd be more than happy to help.

UPDATE: This game still kicks ass! DLC's are now free which add to multiplayer, but this game is really about the amazing single player campaign. RIP N TEAR UNTIL IT IS DONE!

Original Review:

If you are a fan of DOOM, or maybe you've never played any DOOM game before, you have to pick this up!

I'll talk about multiplayer first, since it is the white elephant in the game...
Don't expect it to be a Quake style arena shooter. It is light on arena MP, considering you spawn with loadout kits. The pickup game focuses on armor, ammo, and powerups, which can strategically turn the tide in a match if you are owning the armor and mega health pickups.
Demon rune is a huge game changer, which is tons of fun when you become the demon but also debatabley takes away the core competitiveness of arena combat.
MP is still fun, great maps and cool weapons with fun game modes. Nice customization unlocks for armor, colors, decal skins, and emotes. Unfortunately, the MP community is slowly dwindling so you will need to look online for communities to join like Reddit or Discord.

Now let's talk about the single player...
I must congratulate ID Software on balancing classic shooter mechanics with new modern gameplay mechanics. No reloading, no stamina, no health regen, no snapping cover system.... this is DOOM at its core. Fast movement, with every weapon you find being available for use at any time in combat, and lots of demons to slay!
The large fight encounters are treated like arenas, which is a minor draw back... but I found it exciting to discover new areas where I knew an epic battle was going to go down. The arenas are well designed to maintain a nice flow while running around and slaying demons. The finisher mechanics are quick and sweet, it doesn't detract from the experience, and the maps are sprawling, with keys and plenty of hidden secrets to hunt for.
And let's not forget the amazing soundtrack that Mick Gordon composed for DOOM. The music is amazing, a nice mix of ambience which switches to adrenaline pumping metal when you get into combat.

This game is a wonderful example of all focuses coming together to make a great game. Tech, Design, and Art all come together to deliver a truly modern DOOM experience. Pick this one up, and prepare yourself for some RIP N' TEARING!
