Early Access Review
Battlebit is a testament to what's possible with a crew of highly passionate and dedicated developers. It excels in its satisfying gunplay mechanics and ambitious scale, with ample opportunities for strategy and teamwork. I, like many others, was excited for this game and it was a breath of fresh air to the genre and industry as a whole. However, after a couple of matches, it lost its "new game appeal", and I was left disappointed by its seeming lack of fully fleshed out features.

There is no ping system, minimap, or detection devices. I have no issues with games that give no navigational or awareness assistance, however it feels like it's a core component that's missing in this game. This would typically work fine in any hardcore FPS, but the movement speed and TTK play like a run n gun, so it's common for players to either stay on top of roofs outside your spawn and quick peek you as you leave for easy kills, or rat behind your team's lines and run away undetected.
The movement speed feels great though in conjunction with the gunplay and fast TTK, it's satisfying to rack up headshots or slice through a room with an SMG, but when combined with the more "hardcore" elements the game tries to implement like sluggish reloading, weapon switching, and bandaging, that's when things begin to clash. With the pace of the infantry combat, you innately expect these actions to take less time when you're in the heat of battle.

Weapon customization is healthily fleshed out with plenty of attachments, but unlocks are spaced out so far apart it makes it a pipe dream to get some of the guns without consistent playtime, which not everyone may have. Some classes are more useful than others, some weapons better than others.
Battlebit doesn't try to hide its limited resources with minimalist visuals and audio, but as another reviewer pointed out, the game sounds too quiet given everything that is going on around you. Footsteps become silent very quickly at short range. The mix of solid colors and textures can make spotting enemies difficult at times, and with the TTK you often don't have the chance to fight back, leading to a lot of frustrating one-way encounters. Friendly markers are just dots that dance around your screen, regardless of their distance to you, which can get annoying if you're trying to find out which of your friends is which yellow dot. The maps don't feel like much thought was put into them and don't navigate well, with plenty of dead ends and more multi-storied buildings than you can count. Sure you can run in the general direction of the objective marker, but you'll probably get killed by someone on a roof you didn't know was there. Most of the large scale battles just turn into explosive spam and I get flashbacks to Operation Metro and Operation Locker.

The EULA for VOIP is not very cash money either, though I know most probably don't care about that.

Overall, I know a lot of people are having a ton of fun with this game, but I just didn't enjoy it. IMO, if you're looking for Battlefield, just play Battlefield. But it's $15, which is an extremely fair price, so give it a shot and see if you like it.
