UPDATE - Nov. 17, 2024 - Still Recommended

The content updates so far have kept the game alive. Unfortunately a lot of the player base is either those looking to rush the content or those who listen to the few disgruntled players and follow like sheep in masses.

I cant say the game is perfect, there is still room for improvement and more enticing content. What has been done and changed has mostly been for the good, some changes were done because of too many whining and crying players. What you have to consider is that this game is in the realm of MMO's. Which means the content mostly caters to dedicated and hardcore player groups. Casual players will still find this game "Too difficult" because they will cry RNG isnt in their favor to get a 3% drop chance in the first 2 tries. If you have played any real MMO that isnt watered down handing everything on a silver platter like Lost Ark, then you will know youd have to put in hours, days and weeks for materials to craft and unlock specific items.

They have added some interesting game mode and some of them make certain characters OP asf. Just liek any mmo, you get to a point you just run dailies and farm materials to create duplicates to empower the same items (i.e. you need to build 5 of the same weapon in order to make it a +4 powered weapon).

There is still some issues with the developers not having in-game notifications of how specific mechanics work on certain bosses. They pretty much make it a FA&FO until some awesome youtuber makes a tutorial on how the boss fight is done. Thats about the only thing really irritating. Once you figure everything out and build your Descendants correctly its an easy fun game.

....................................................

Update - JULY 28, 2024 - Still Recommend The First Descendant.

For Free to Play, it is fairly fun. Especially the co-op. While the world can seem kinda empty since they limit every sub-zone to 4 players, its keeps it in control from being over run by too many players in the open environment missions. The characters are pretty fun, although Bunny gets annoying (imo) pretty fast (no pun intended). Youll have to get used to her for a bit since the Story locks up twice requiring you progress parts of her story before being able to move along into the next Campaign Zones.

Combat is your typical looter shooter; It still feels like a cross between Destiny, Warframe and Outriders. Takes a bit of each to make something kinda of its own.

Story is pretty decent, its not a Woke mess luckily; like every other story trying to diversify to meet the crazy unmedicated world we live in.

There is some little issues with the game, most of them are related to Intel 13th & 14th Gen CPU's, not the game, not the Unreal Engine 5; its all Intel's issue for creating faulty CPU's that start to Oxydize as well as consume too much power causing them to create errors.

Some other issues is Server and possible Peer-to-Peer connections causing lag and stuttering. There is a memory leak at some stages of play time as well. Its minor, unless you have an older PC or one of the above said Intel CPU's.

Now the part that will obviously make it or break it for anyone who has ZERO Attention Span or is very much on the Casual side of gaming. If you are either, stop, dont install the game. In fact, stick to Single Player games. This game involves earning your rewards, aka grinding and putting in the work for them. All MMO RPG's and their sub Genres do this, especially those with Crafting Mechanics. If you cant handle grinding, you have been warned.

Lastly, dont enter Global Chat in-game. Its a Bot spam fest with links to sell gold. What do you expect from an Asian-Region Developed game? If you want to chat or get some help, join their Discord and you wont have the bot spam problem.

Rating 6.5-7 out of 10.

JULY 3, 2024 -

Im kinda surprised im giving this a Thumbs Up. I question anything Free To Play on being good and worth the time. Nexon is not a company that really provides a long term quality gaming experience without ruining some aspect of its games. Quick version, its worth playing right now, even though there is some Server Instability and Glitching.

Ive played a couple hours on my PS5 and about 40 minutes on PC w/ a 4070Ti.

On console the game is not optimized, stutters and frame drops constantly, on top of latency issues. So if you plan on going to play on Console, wait a couple months until the get the servers more stable. What might help a little is disabling Crossplay.

On PC, this game runs fairly good, even with everything on Ultra w/ RT ON (No DLSS - for one i dont believe in that imitation crap).

With RT on I get about 40-85 FPS.
With RT OFF, about 60-105 FPS.

Low dips with either, goes to about 28-40fps depending on the zone.

Gameplay is all 3rd person shooting. It definitely borrows from Destiny with the Characters and the whole "Guide" thing and the Open-Linear Environments. Character combat is very much Outriders & Remnant.

Controls are mostly good, what I find annoying is the "Melee" action, particularly on console is not well thought out. You need to hit L1+R1 at the same time to do a Melee on enemies and that is not good. This takes enough time away from you to lose tracking of your in range target and doesnt always land. Everything else is just a matter of getting used to for skills. Its a lot simpler on PC.

Story of the game is a 7/10, its refreshing to not have something that is woke. But yet here in the discussions we have people complaining of its Asian (Korean) themes.

Now the MTX stuff, there isnt much, the price points or a bit high, but none of it ive seen is Pay to Win, its all Skins for various Weapons, Descendants and teleporter animations.

Overall, despite the stability of the Servers and Host Connections (assuming the dungeons are P2P when doing them public) i'd say this game is a 6.5/10 but dont see it lasting as a popular Top 100 long term game by then end of 2024. Time will tell.

Sim City 3000 Unlimited/World Edition is a great classic. Back when Maxis actually made good Sim games. One could argue that Sims in the City and Sim City 4 are the peak of of the Sim City games, but thats where they started to really go after players wallets.

Now with this, you do not need EA Origin to play. Thank the Heavens! But you still have a couple tweaks to do if you want some "Modern Flair" enhancements. By default you have only the [4:3] 640x480 through 1280x1024 resolutions.

- start the game and get to the main menu. navigate the options if you desire and youll find your stuck with low resolution modes.
- exit the game back to desktop.

This can be easily fixed by going to GOG for their Official Version of the SC3U.exe which has all the resolution tweaks in it.

- Go to this Official GOG Forum Link Link - https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018687573-Simcity-3000-Unlimited-widescreen-support?product=gog

Youll find the download link in the middle of the paragraph, which will be the GOG version of the EXE in a RAR archive.

- Go to your install location, i.e. [Steam\steamapps\common\SimCity 3000 Unlimited\Apps].
- locate the original sc3u.exe and put that in a new folder called bkup so you can always fine it if you run into a problem.
- Place the GOG version of the exe in your where the old exe was.
- Start the game again, go to the preferences menu and

This will get you ALL of your GPU & Display's supported Resolutions. i.e. I was able to set it to 2560x1440p. Looks amazing compared to the 1280x1024.

Now one issue resides on resolution above 1280x720p. The fast/warp speed scrolling. This is only a problem if you use Right-Click on your mouse to drag the screen. There is a couple oddball fixes that dont always work. None have worked for me at least.

- Run the game at the desktop resolution with a high/widescreen resolution patch [GOG exe].

Ensure that the game has been modified to run in high/widescreen resolutions.
In the game's video options, set the resolution to the desktop resolution.

You dont really need to use R-Click, you can just use Left-Click and it will snap to center where you click on screen. This is the only issue besides reported issues of memory leaks after X amount of play time. This varies depending on the PC from what it sounds.

I need to get back into playing this game. I loved playing Shadowrun way back on the Genesis, and this reminded me of it. i just didnt have the time to sit and play when i started. What i did get into was really fun and showed a lot of depth of game design and characters right in the beginning.

Sacred 2 continues on the path of being a ARPG but standing more in line with RPG like its previous entry. More akin to Dungeon Siege than a Diablo game. Its another great addition to the genre thats commonly overlooked and not talked enough about. Co-op makes it real fun.

If you are in the mood for something thats like Diablo or Dungeon Siege, this may suit you.

Sacred is a known ARPG but not one commonly talked about. It has more RPG elements than it does Action compared to other ARPG titles. Often mistaken as another Diablo-esq title, when its more like Dungeon Siege. Pretty fun game if you want something that can scratch that itch whether you are looking for a Diablo type, Dungeon Siege type or something in the middle of both.

It does show some aging but its still quite fun.

No. Give me Warcraft 3 or D&D Dragonshard. Id rather play Hero RTS games than MOBA sub-genres. This genre has taken part in ruining RTS games in favor of "Speed competition" and "eSports" half baked gaming.

IF you decide to play this game here on PC, whether its the old Disc Version or the Steam version, do this after you install the game.

- Launch it once
- Create a profile
- Start the game
- Quit to Desktop after the first sequence
- Go to your "My Documents" or "Documents" Folder depending on your Windows version
- navigate to "My Games\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\Config"
- Use a text editor like notepad and open PecanEngine.ini
- Press CTRL F and search for "teather"

This is a misspelled word, mistaken by the developers. It is literally the one thing that screwed up the Aliens A.I. making the game bland and canny.

- once the misspelled word is located, change it to "tether" and the lines should look like this

"ClassRemapping=PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachMarineToTether -> PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachPawnToTether
ClassRemapping=PecanGAme.PecanSeqAct_AttachXenoToTether -> PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachPawnToTether"

- Save the file and launch the game.

The experience will be night and day from the Vanilla version over correcting a single typo.

Another Great game during Bioware's prime time. Sequel if that wasnt obvious to an already great SW game using D&D rules. Expands on the story of Revan with more choices and outcomes from said choices.

Definitely Recommended for fans of either or both Star Wars and Dungeons & Dragons. 9 out of 10

Back when the name Bioware actually meant a quality game, we had games like this, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. It used Wizards of the Coast's, Dungeons & Dragons ruleset to create a great choice and karma system that affected the gameplays outcome and character progression with certain NPC's. Introduced one of the greatest Star Wars characters, Revan.

Truly a great game, Ive played this on the OG Xbox and original PC Discs when they released.

Another game from the past that makes its way onto Steam. I played this originally on the original PC Disc version. Then the PS2 port later.

It is a bit dated and clunky with the controls.

Story is great for a Viking theme.

Gameplay is gory for its time. Gibs and chunks were the gorefest of the time.

OST is symbolic to the theme and helps drive the story and gameplay.

Its not for everyone and I imagine there will be many complaints over the clunkiness. As always check the pcgamingwiki for modern PC fixes to assist in smoothing it out and Nexusmods Rune Classic Remastered Mod https://www.nexusmods.com/runeclassic/mods/1 which fixes a ton
