Faeria + Magic the Gathering + Slay The Spire + Monster Train + Heroes of Might & Magic = Roguebook.

Even though it shares quite a lot of the games mentioned above, it still manages to feel completely new and fresh. Tons to like here.

I'll be honest... Even after I've sunk countless hours into similar games such as Monster Train and Slay the Spire... it took me a few hours to like this game. Stick with it though, because it you're like me, you'll be "just one more round" hooked.

If you're a fan of games like Slay the Spire, Hearthstone, or Darkest Dungeon, you'll more than likely enjoy Monster Train.

A fresh take on an old formula.

Chimera Squad is a faster; more streamlined tactical experience. Battles take place in "waves" which are just smaller rooms or fields, each connected by the new breach mode.

Breach is something I'd like to see in XCOM 3 as it has you place your agents in different entry points to the next map (ie: doors, vents, blowing up a wall). It adds a new tactical depth in that your agents also gain breach abilities that you can use in this mode as you progress.

Your agents are no longer your own unique creations. Rather characters that all help move the story forward and have their own backstory. Although, I'll admit using Sectoid, Snakewoman, or ex-ADVENT agents, each with their own set of abilities and core stats, is pretty cool. Characters also take their individual turns on a timeline. You're able to plan better knowing which enemy will attack next etc...

There is no geoscape, and that's a bit of a let-down... You control City 31 versus the entire planet. There's no base building either. You're still able to research (or assemble) new technologies, train your agents, and alter your agents' loadout outside of battles. City 31 is split into areas that all have an unrest meter. Ignoring missions will increase the unrest and battles will become more difficult. It adds a bit of pressure, in which I'm never a fan of...

But all in all, if you're an XCOM fan, you're probably already downloading Chimera Squad. It's a lengthy enjoyable experience and I have absolutely no regrets in buying. ESPECIALLY at this budget price. Well worth your time!

Easily a 4/5

I wanted to LOVE this game, as Final Fantasy 4 was one of my favorite games in the series. But the story seemed convoluted and confusing for me. Even so, it satisfies the need for more FF4, if that's what you've been looking for.

After waiting patiently (pun intended) for a Theme Hospital 2. This is as close as it gets. It's everything the 1997 game was, and so much more.

For fans and newcomers, alike.

Thank you to the developers. I can now die happy. =)

If you're a fan of the X-Com universe or loved the reboot from a few years back, you'll absolutely adore this game.
