This is a piece of art that everyone should check out IMHO. Some aspects of it are frustrating, yes. Gameplay is too slowly paced at times, soundtrack leaves more to be desired (wish it was more spicy), character faces are mostly emotionless (the poses and animations are good though), not even going to mention finding beer bottles as a quest. But the story, maaan.

And the fact that some people are getting so triggered because of the end is a sign of how truly powerful it is. IMO, the end is the whole point and it really brings the main message to the front and, for me, makes this game a masterpiece.

Man, this is a hard one to decide to recommend or not. First of all, will it ever going to be 'finished'? I'm not sure, so if that scares you, don't go near it. Did devs abandon it? Well, I feel Alpha 17 is a last major content update, but it's a step further, despite what some people say. Irritating mechanics (like gun parts) are gone, hundreds of new locations to explore, new look, trees don't disappear from view in a distance, so wooded valleys look like wooded valleys and not like barren plains, and, finally, there are new means of transportation!

Although it's more of an RPG now. Actually, 7DTD nowadays reminds me heavily of TES IV, even houses feel more like dungeons. Remember those goblins in catacombs in the beginning, whom you would make angry one by one, damage with a bow and finish off using a sword? ONE-BY-ONE is the key here. That's basically how you going to spend most of the time fighting zeds. Some say it's not fun, I'd say in interesting locations it is very playable.

The real problem is that in TES IV you didn't have to fight angry running hordes of zeds. In 7DTD, you have, and when you are surrounded by zeds wielding a meelee weapon, you have no chance, and it's incredibly frustrating. It's simply not fun to chop them, like for example in L4D. Sure, the biggest mob only comes every 7 days, when you are prepared for it, but there are also smaller hordes that spoil everything. The thing is that zeds feel the heat, so in the beginning, when all available light sourses use fire, thus generating heat, you're more likely to encounter hordes, while later in the game, if upgraded to electricity, you stop attracting zombies.

I love base building, though, besause it involves constant balancing of appearance, practicality and defensive value, and because of zeds advanced pathfinding, it's possible to lure them into your carefully placed traps, while leaving the rest of the base relatively less armored. Mindlessly placed rows and rows of spike traps not going to help like they did in A16.

I mostly play with friends on private servers though, so lack of online doesn't scare me, but it's definitely something to consider. I'd say pick it up when it's on sale.

During my brief experience in this game I was taught the fastest way to load a cannon in an orderly manner, shouted at, called unflattering nicknames multiple times, threatened with cruel demise, mutinied against, and, of course, did all of the above-mentioned things myself, all as a part of gameplay. Must say, I had a great time!

Well, yes, it gets repetitive over time. Playerbase could be larger, plus, you'll need quite a machine to run it smoothly. Maybe it's the fact that I got it on sale, but I think it's worth it, if you like that type of roleplaying multiplayer interactions.

What amazes me most about this game is how devs managed to keep it true to the original A. Sapkowsky's books, to that somewhat bittersweet atmosphere. And it's great, because I honestly think that everybody should be acquainted with A. Sapkowsky's creations. They're very post-modern and 'anti-fairytale': there is no 'black and white' type of worldview, no simplistic 'evil' characters; the 'morally acceptable' choices don't always turn out to be the right ones. Geralt himself is susceptible to changes, and sometimes learns the consequences of his actions the hard way; he's an adept of 'live and let live' principle and knows that sometimes it is best to not get involved.

And now you've got the chance to experience all this youself in a videogame. And what's even better, you can choose a different path than Sapkowsky's Geralt would! What's not to like about it?

P.S. The nature in the game is so alive, i've never seen anything like it. Those giant gloomy trees on the side of the roads are great, espesially in the high wind...
