A great no-stress exploration game.

The world design is great. Everything is contained within a relatively small map but there are paths, shortcuts, collectibles and mini-quest at every turn.

Movement is fluid and forgiving, the cat climbing back up terrain even if you don't exactly land on it.

A game to feel good.

Exploration and platforming is about 95% of you're doing but even after journeying through the same map 10 or 15 times to find the collectibles, it didn't really bother me because the game is simply stress-free. The different towns/maps (4, not counting the special maps) are both easy to maneuver in and filled with secret paths, shortcuts and collectibles. Every time I do another round of the map, I find stuff that I missed.

The entire game is based around collecting lanterns by exploring or completing simple puzzles to progress through the game. The more lanterns you have, the more areas you unlock. You can also collect coins to buy outfits or objects to customize your base.

Maps are somewhat small but the level is design is compact and vertical. There never are parts of the maps that are empty or lacking details. The fact that you can (and are encouraged) to climb buildings often means that you discover secret paths or can parkour nicely from building to building.

After 1h or so of playing, you unlock the airship, letting you fly around the same maps that you were on foot earlier on. This changes the feel of the game greatly as you can't go through the same paths to explore and there are also puzzles and secrets to unlock with the airship.

Graphically, the game is gorgeous. Not particularly in the technical or high-fidelity aspects but the design works extremely well all around. The towns are foggy and mysterious when you first reach them but become colorful and full of life later on. The water is really beautiful and reflects all details of the towns while the light changes depending on the time of the day. The night gives a different feel to all maps and also highlights the collectibles that you might have missed.

It is somewhat disappointing that the game is so short (around 3 hours for me to finish the story ; probably 5-6 to get everything) but it fits well as a walking simulator and nothing is really urgent in the game so you can take your time :)

It took 10 hours to understand the base mechanics (somewhat). Add 100 hours to understand advanced strategies and builds. Probably add 50 more hours to be great at the game.

Going through the tutorial will probably only teach you the very basics, and while mechanics and complexity are added at a good pace, the game does need quite a bit of brainpower to understand correctly. If you are anything like me, you might spend a dozen minutes in each fight trying to understand how the enemies work.

The story and setting are amazing, enhanced with an OST by Mili that is simply perfect. Every character is memorable and relatable, and the story of even minor characters bring with them a flurry of emotions. I would even say it is hard not to cheer for some of them when you have to fight them.

Near the end of the game, finishing any fight would leave me exhausted but immensely happy that I managed to handle what the game threw at me. While the stakes are always low and you can start over any fight really quickly, the tension was always high for me.

Would recommend if you enjoy deckbuilding to the highest degree

Just a really good game.

All the mechanics feel good and useful. Most of the game is spent fishing (obviously) but it never feels grindy or boring. And when you fell tired of that, you still have a lot of places to explore, secrets to find and quests to do.

Nothing is "too much", instead it's easy to get lost in the world (and the sea). Every time I feel like I've seen everything in the world, it finds ways to surprise and amaze me.

The game is not too lengthy, about 10-15 hours if you want to do everything. It can appears too short but I guarantee it's gonna be some of the best hours spent in a game.

Why does this game have a storyline ? Lou is the most annoying character I have ever seen.

I really didn't think I would sink 100 hours into this game when I first started it.

The simplicity of the mechanics makes for rather uncomplicated gameplay at first glance. But when progressing and discovering more and more things in the game, it quickly becomes more and more like a playground fit for testing and discovering builds and playstyles.

All of the secrets and items hidden throughout the levels are really fun to search and unlocking new things quickly becomes the main point of the game, once the first few runs are completed.

On top of all of this, the soundtrack is downright amazing, complementing nicely all of the different stages and bringing out their uniqueness.
