Sale price is worth its weight in gold, haven't played enough to say it's worth $35 but it's been fantastic so far

If you are on the fence about buying this one, try the same developers free game on steam "how fish is made" first and if you like the vibe it gives, you'll like this one too.

Unique in every way, has a story you can't look away from, disturbing, horrific, and existential. At the same time it's heartwarming, and calm. Just an insane roller coaster ride this game takes you on.

This is the type of game that makes you wish that the men in black could come hit you with the flashing device and make you forget, just so you could re-play it for the first time.

The devs put so much effort and fine tuning into this. 10/10.

Hands down the best co-op experience, very solid story and plot, almost like a interactive movie that you get to play through with a friend

I play a ton of different horror titles, giving them all my most honest review. Different strokes for different folks, but I personally like a variety. Sometimes I just want to play through a game and experience the world, without having to stress over so many different factors. It's frustrating when you are playing a game like Mad1son for example (which was great in it's own rights) and the puzzles are so difficult that you can't move forward without a ton of effort and searching, or alt+tabbing to pull up a guide. I'm talking about those long nights after work, when you wanna relax and game.

A lot of people seem to be giving this a negative rating or a 5-7 out of 10 because they went in with the wrong expectation. This is basically a walking sim, with some very light puzzles. You are here to explore, experience the amazing visuals, and immerse yourself in the story. Nobody said this was going to include difficult puzzles and be as conventionally scary as P.T.

The game set out to accomplish it's insane story telling and visuals, and did it extremely well. I was stunned by the mechanics, the way the rooms change, never knowing what i'll see next, and the sheer creativity in general. You won't find another game that does what Layers of Fear set out to do, and did.

If you are looking for something designed to be terrifying, go look at Visage, Mad1son, Hellseed, Infliction, and other titles that orient themselves around just that. If you are looking to have the unique experience that Layers of Fear is, then either wait for a sale if you aren't too sure, or pay the $19.99 which I still think is completely worth it if you understand what you are getting into.

I have a hard time giving this lower than a 9/10, I just enjoyed it that much. I could see how if you were expecting something else, sure it could probably disappoint you, but that's not the games fault. That's your fault. There are a plethora of reviews explaining exactly what the game is, and the first sentence of the description literally says "first-person psychedelic horror game with a heavy focus on story and exploration."

Getting some major "ordered hot wings, sent them back to the kitchen for being too spicy" vibes off of a lot of these whiners.

Visuals are amazing. The game is not all that action packed, you'll spend a majority of the time working at the bath-house, getting bits and pieces of the story, with intermittent scares and creepiness sprinkled in. There are 3 endings. I HIGHLY recommend to finish the game, then go straight into completing the last 2 endings. The game let's you start on the last day, where the decisions matter to get another ending. May take you another 30 minutes if you look up a quick guide. You will thank yourself once you see how the story plays out in the other endings.

Decent short game for free. Looking at psychological aspects + sounds and atmosphere, this was surprisingly well made. Beats a lot of cheap horror games that do nothing but cheap jump scares.

I figured out the second combination on my own after a few tries, but the first combination? How are you supposed to come to that number?

Cons:
-A lot of familiar assets are used, visually and sound.
-Game is extremely short, finished in 30 minutes.
-Psychological and atmospheric horror are weak, completely reliant on jump scares.
-The voice over is in Russian. As a non-Russian speaker, you'll be reading subtitles.
-Entering certain doors prompts a load-screen, breaking what little immersion exists.
-The objectives are very basic, and the one "puzzle" was pretty much a guessing game. I read the notes several times to make sure I wasn't missing something, ended up looking up the code online. I had the right numbers, but how are you supposed to know the order? it's a 4 digit code, are you supposed to sit there and enter the numbers in different combinations up to 24 times until you guess it correctly? That's pretty bad design.

Pros:
-Christmas theme was cool
-Jump scares were not the worst in the world

I don't recommend this game overall, because even for the sale price of $2.50 you can get a way better game.

If you have 30 minutes to kill, want something Christmas themed, but at the same time don't care if the game is good or not, maybe you won't hate it?
