As someone who has given this game hundreds of hours of gameplay, I feel it's time to finally come give a review.

The good:
You can enjoy the game in it's current state, it's playable where it's at and (mostly) works well.
It has a logic system and allows for live building. The logic system works well for the most part, and allows you to create wonderful and awesome machines.
The modding community has invested a lot and made things like wings, extra parts like wheels and overall make what used to be impossible, possible.
There's a fleshed out "challenge mode" that can take up quite a bit of time and can be done in different ways, some are actually fairly difficult and it's a good time sink.

The bad:
The devs. Chapter 2 was supposed to release 2 years ago now. Instead of giving insight into what's happening, why the delays, what they're working on, they post on their x once or twice a year with a single picture and a "sorry but we're still here!"
Multiplayer can have some really bad lag due to the physics, it can at times make maps unplayable
Lack of updates. Over the past couple of years the only updates we've received are a patch to stop malware and a new block, wedges. For a game with 100's of blocks, it shouldn't take years to create 1. But they're draggable! You can make wedges of different sizes and shapes! .... but not in survival mode, only creative/custom maps

In total, for being the same company that published raft, you'd think they'd know how to release a game. Instead, they promise an update that hasn't come over the course of years, I've given up hope that it'll ever come. I've lost hope in them, and I hope you don't join my boat. Avoid it. There are better games that provide this building style that are better and actually receive content updates.

I'll start this off by saying that the BASE GAME is recommended. As for any and all of the DLC that costs money? Nah I wouldn't recommend those. The maps aren't satisfying enough and you can obtain all dinos from the DLC's via mods from the community workshop.

The game itself is fairly buggy, you'll run into situations where you question how this is still inside of the game / hasn't been addressed yet. But the fun parts of this game? There's many of them, and they can be a lot of fun. Whether you're playing single player or online with some friends on a server. The amount of content along with the amount of mods and the ways that they work together allow for many different playstyles, many playthroughs and hundreds of hours of enjoyment.
