I've actually played the pre-release of this game. Would you believe me if I said that version was better than the full release? Pre-release was more stable, finding games was easier and there weren't bugs everywhere. How the game did a complete 180 on release day is beyond me.

An amazing indie game shooter. If you're a fan of the F.E.A.R shooters, you'll love this game. The shooting feels great, the movement is fluent and the special abilities work flawlessly.

This mod makes a lot of great changes for half life. The combat is a massive step up and movement feels much smoother. The new weapon abilities given for some guns are fun and the updated visuals look great.

For an expansion, this is definitely a solid game. Being able to carry over progression from another Dead Island game is a great feature. The new skills this game adds are also a lot of fun.

That being said, when you start a new game and carry over progression from the 1st Dead Island, What is kept is your player level and skills. Your inventory items, weapons, money and blueprints are gone. The game still sends zombies that are around your level after you. For characters like Sam B who can make use of blunt weapons, even low quality ones, this isn't too bad. He can still delivery heavy hits and be very effective even with weaker weapons. But for characters like Purna, who specialize is guns, this characters suffers a lot. Since her skills are mostly focused on guns and not melee, she really struggles during the early game. The only gun you get for a good portion of the beginning is a flare gun, which is a fun and effective weapon, but it doesn't stay that way and is sometimes useless when parts of the map are flooded waist high. Thankfully, the weapon upgrade system that levels up specific weapons based on what types you use makes it less difficult, but getting Purna from basically 0 up to the standard you need is not easy.

There's also new guns to play with. The shotgun selection is so much better, in the first game they were very weak, but here they've been buffed and deal great damage. There's some new melees and the game adds a lot more explosive tools to play with. Another great change with this is that traders now have a specific set of gear. One trader will sell throwing weapons, but another will sell heavy weapons. It's a great change and makes finding new weapons for your characters so much easier.

Now, this game is fun, but the starting area is a real poor start. First off, starting with all your inventory taken away with no notice that it will happen when you carry over progression is not a good beginning. Second, doing it again at the start right when you get some cool weapons is really scummy. Third, the drowner zombies. These guys are such a pain to deal with. This game adds a travel by boat since there's flooding. And in the water, the drowner zombies sprint towards you. Not when you get close to them, if they are within 20 feet of you and you are just in the boat, they sprint towards you. They latch onto your boat and if they climb on, won't stop attacking you. When you stop controlling the boat, your character gets off the boat, which wastes even more of your time. If you decide to travel by foot in the water, they don't care unless you get right on top of them. You can get them off by speeding up with the boat, but the game doesn't tell you boats have a speed up ability, and no other vehicle has this, so you probably won't know about it first time playing. On top of that, even if you escape them latching onto your boat, since they still sprint, they will catch up to where you stop, so you still have to deal with them. Plus, later on the drowner's rules change. When you reach a new area, there's still flooding and you only travel by foot. This time, they will wake up even if you are farther away in the water. But sometimes they still don't wake up unless you are on top of them. So unless you want to check every body that hasn't woken up, you are going to have to hope they don't so you can move forward.

Now, the first area does have a great new mode that happens at scripted points. A defense mode with a horde of zombies coming to attack your position. You don't fight alone, the traders and other story characters fight alongside you. If you play single player, the other playable characters are with you fighting. You can also level up their weapons, or for traders, shops. These give you new blueprints and a lot of xp, and it also makes them more effective fighters.

The second area of the game is where things get much better. The flooded areas are in much smaller amounts and fighting zombies is more fun. By this point, the newer guns and better ones from the previous game are given by this point. And, the ammo for them is in much more abundant supply instead of being in the safe house or in small gang hideouts. So, you are able to use your guns much more freely and without as much restraint. There is also where Purna is much more fun thanks to her gun skills and the new weapon level-ups.

So overall, while the first area can be a pain, it does add a lot of new stuff that's fun to play with. And the second area is where the game picks up and is a ton of fun. If you can get through the first location of the game, you'll definitely have a better time in the second since this where ammo is in higher supply and great new guns are introduced.

I rate this game (as a whole) a 7/10

This game (after the 1st hour) plays as a open world game, but instead of the entire game taking place in 1 map, it's across multiple different locations. There's new mechanics such as crafting, weapon cleaning and morality for what enemies you kill instead of just specific actions. There's also weather events and side missions. Stealth and combat is still really good in this game. Battles are tense and stealth has been improved with the game telling you whether enemies will be able to see you. You also play through many areas solo, but you have allies fight alongside you a few times which is nice and makes sense since you don't travel alone. I also like how some anomalies from the first game return and are more of a threat that don't happen at one scripted point. Crafting is a big part of Exodus so exploring is even more important than previous games and also more rewarding. Instead of finding ammo for a gun you aren't using and getting stuck with low ammo for a gun you are using, you'll find crafting pieces. These are much more common but ammo is scarce. This works a lot better since you have more control over what ammo you have instead of being at the mercy of what ammo the game gives you. If you like the previous metro games, you'll like this one and if you like open world games, you'll also like this.

I've played 18 hours, and the most fun I had was a server event with a giant beast, and nothing else was anything above ok in terms of fun. Maybe the main story quest is fun, but I wouldn't know since you can't continue it until you reach a certain level to do them. As in over 30 levels higher than the last requirement.

So you have to do these heart missions throughout the world to level up. They are the most mundane things ever. Collect this thing, press a button at that thing, kill some enemies. That's what every heart mission I've done has been. The item rewards you get are absolute garbage. There was not a single one that gave me better armor or weapons that what I already had.

Speaking of items, shops also don't let you buy some things unless you reach a certain level, so have fun sticking with the same weapons and armor because the heart missions and enemy drops won't give you better stuff.

And server events. These are random events that pop up and get you extra rewards. Sound fun? Well too bad they arent. I've been through 20 of these things and that's not including ones I decided to skip out on. Here's what all but 1 of them were like.

-Escort an npc and don't let them die. They either jog or move insanely slow.

-Collect items and bring it back to someone. Its boring.

-Defend specific place. It would be fun, but other players who are many levels above you will wipe out the enemies which makes getting points in the events for better rewards a real pain. And some of these can last for a full 10 minutes.

-Kill a certain amount of enemies until the morale amount for them reaches 0.

-The only good one was a boss fight. The boss was an absolute giant and tons of players were in the fight zone. There was a time limit, portals spawning in some dangerous enemies, players rushing to revive others. It was chaos and tons of fun. I also got actual great rewards and xp after the fight. This happened nowhere else in any part of the game that I played. Nowhere else was there difficult enemies or dangerous bosses. And I was playing a healer, I didn't exactly have strong weapons or spells, I was a support character. And there wasn't anytime except that event boss where I was worried about dying or had any challenge to it.

There's also vistas that reward xp and places to earn hero points. The vistas are actually fun since some require some platforming to get to and it feels rewarding to get them. The hero points are either pressing a key and getting it or doing a very easy fight.

Almost everything I've been doing is just mundane activity after mundane activity. I have nothing else to say since there's nothing else that has happened.

This game reminds me of LISA: The Painful.

-RPG with 4 party members

-Fun gameplay with so much stuff to play around with

-Lots of places to explore and get special items

-The story will screw with your emotions, a lot.

This game is a lot of fun and improves some things about the first Entropy: Zero

Pros:
+Great combat with new weapons that aren't in the original Half Life titles or in the first game.

+More fighting with combine allies that you can command. In the first game, you could only fight with combine allies once. So to have more of these and be able to command them is great.

+There's a driving APC chapter and in case you screw something up, the game gives you more APCs in the chapter to replace. You also get a combine hunter ally that follows you during the chapter which is nice.

+Down time between fights that involves puzzle solving. Compared to the first game, these are done far better. I never got stuck or thought the solution was total bogus.

+Great pacing. i didn't feel fights or puzzle sections lasted too long. There is one area that makes you take your time against an enemy you aren't able to handle, but the game gives you a good deal of safety nets to prevent you from dying and going back.

+A great character named Wilson. He's funny and he is enjoyable to listen to when he gets more serious. He can also help you later on by opening different supply areas. He also can't die (unless you intentionally try to kill him).

+Multiple endings.

Cons

-You "have" to physically carry Wilson around. I put this in quotation marks because at a certain point you can just leave Wilson behind. But he opens different supply areas later on and the dialogue between him and you is so good as well. The game also does a lot to not make it a pain. There are many times where you can leave Wilson behind since you will backtrack to a location. You also won't miss any important dialogue when doing that. Most of the time Wilson will flat out say that to you, but there are times when he doesn't, though it's pretty easy to tell when those are. There's also parts where the game will put him further ahead so you can go on and enjoy the action without having to carry him around. On top of that, Wilson is very easy to move around since the game also lets you place him on moving vehicles.

This is definitely worth playing. It's one of the best HL2 mods out there
