I read the books, I played the previous games, multiple times. I liked it.

So this Metro game differs from the previous ones as it is taking place in several kind-of open-worldish levels. Which is fine. It still feels apocalyptic, depressing, soviet and in general metro-ish.
But, especially after reaching the caspian area, it also feels like another game. Dare I say it? It feels like a wasteland after a nuclear fallout .. yeah, Fallout! And you know what this also includes? A lot of very nice bugs.

In the order I experienced them in:
* character AI broke the first moment I get a companion; which in turn broke the game as the character is supposed to help me survive this cutscene; state was also persisted in save games
* keyboard layout can only be changed for movement, not interaction (I'm looking at you, Fallout 4!)
* right mouse button froze; couldn't aim anymore until loading a savegame
* graphic engine is wonky at startup (window misaligned with screen), I always have to minimize the game once
* needed to change filter for gas mask; timer reset and froze; Artyom died
* Windows volume control disabled in-game
* corrupt save files (which the game at least detected and then deleted ... uh, thanks?!)
* first night in the desert was 100% dark plus sandstorm and no way of skipping; and I mean BLACK
* looking at your map in a vehicle messes up the character positioning 50% of the time
* just now, the game froze in a fight (final straw)

To remind everyone, this is one year after the initial launch (on PC) and a maximum of 5 patches have come out (version says 1.0.0.5; which hints at minor bugfixes). They apparently have time to publish DLCs, though. Don't take this the wrong way, the game is fun and rewarding, but the current state it is in (after a year of "public beta" in the epic store) is just not okay. At all.

Update as of Dec2020: Things seem unchanged.
