If you enjoyed the glory days of Quake/Unreal/Painkiller/Blood this game is for you. The standard graphics are perfect and there's even a free Dusk HD DLC if you're not a fan of the oldschool low poly look. Gameplay is very similar to quake with better level design, ambience, and story. Rarely did I find myself getting lost looking for keys - the levels flow well & they're full of clever secrets.

FUN FOR THE FUN GODS

This game is fantastic - IF you fall into the very specific niche of WH40k fans that also enjoy boomer shooters. I had so much fun playing on hard spamming the taunt button while slaughtering unclean heretics with 40k weaponry. This game is more fun the faster you go; don't try to take it slow and find everything on the first run, it'll ruin the experience and get you lost while you're trying to progress. I found hard difficulty to be tough but fair for my first run, normal would probably be a cakewalk for a FPS veteran.

TBH it's just slightly above average if you don't like/know about the 40k universe. There's definitely better boomer shooters out there if you don't care about Warhammer. I'd still give it a recommendation (on sale) for anyone looking to play a good single player boomer shooter with great movement mechanics & fun weapons.

I haven't had this much fun since the glory days of blizzard (before they sold out); Diablo/Diablo 2/LOD are my favourite games of all time and halls of torment was clearly inspired by many of the things that made those games great while cutting down on the endless grind of most RPGs which don't respect your time.

Works great on deck - just enable compatibility mode with proton 8 & go slay some cultists in glorious HD!

I wanted to love this game after playing the first which is a solid arena shooter.

This game is straight up broken though with no patch in sight since 2022: there's a common black screen issue which prevents the game from loading and hogs all your ram until your pc either crashes, freezes, or it miraculously loads after waiting nearly 15 minutes...

This is the case on both my windows gaming PC and my steam deck - I've easily wasted 5 hours trying to troubleshoot the problem but the game's just broken.

Buyer beware - you'll probably have to refund.

I love and hate this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game at the same time.
