While it's not necessarily an actual game, VPet Simulator is a good way to have some company while you do things on your computer.

It's kind of like having a Tamagotchi that is human and moves around your screen occasionally. For those who might not know what a Tamagotchi was, it basically was a virtual pet in a device that could fit in your pocket, that you would feed and entertain to keep it alive. What's even better is you can download more animations and things from the Steam Workshop, and that's always fun.

VPet Simulator is an adorable pal that I recommend to anyone who is looking to have some company on their screen while they do stuff on the computer.

For a free game, Chair Simulator is decent. The mechanic of earning currency and buying more chairs is fairly simple and may even be a good way to learn patience.

I also enjoyed finding the glitches, which unfortunately usually required you to restart your save file, but that's not too bad as long as you haven't progressed much in the game. Thankfully they are the kind of glitches that you have to go out of your way to find and aren't something that easily impedes progress.

Although it is simple and isn't a horrible game, it is unfortunately not perfect either. For me the ending was underwhelming, but I suppose it at least had something to indicate that you completed the game.
The character roster was also lacking, as none of the characters were all that original, except maybe Bob. Most of them were just old influencers.

The worst part though is that it doesn't have replayability. Once you have bought every chair there isn't really much to do besides sit in them. Except for the Deck Chair. Never sit in that one.

I will say though, I can appreciate that this free game doesn't have microtransactions and won't ask you for money once you play. It basically comes with the whole game.

All in all, it's a decent free game, that I recommend if you are bored, like "Simulator" games, or have played most of everything you already have.

As someone who does achievement hunting as a hobby, I found Achievement Simulator to be very charming.

As a clicker game, it's rather easy, but thankfully I don't care about that part, as I retired my interest in clicker games.
While the simulation of achievement hunting in this game is nowhere close to hunting achievements of actual value in actual games, it probably is pretty similar to Idle game achievement hunting, aside that you make money for buying games just by clicking.

I recommend this game to anyone looking for a simple, yet fun game, or anyone who is looking for a small peek into what it's like to do casual achievement hunting on Steam.

Hexcells Plus is more difficult than the first Hexcells game, with new mechanics to the game for solving the levels.

While not everyone will have as difficult a time as I did, it seems my skill level tends to cause me to be just slightly behind where I should be to be able to solve the levels with very little problems. Despite that, it won't be impossible for me to solve every level and get every achievement.

For anyone who hasn't played any of the games in this series, I recommend first playing the game "Hexcells" of the series, as it is easier than this one and is a good starting point. This one is more for players who are good at intermediate puzzles or players who have already played "Hexcells". Despite the Hexcells series being one of my favorite puzzle game series, I did not enjoy Hexcells Plus as much as "Hexcells".

I recommend this game to anyone to who enjoyed Hexcells or is looking for a decently challenging puzzle game.

Montaro is a decently fun, side scrolling, coin collecting game where you must dodge obstacles and collect coins, allowing you to unlock more Doge costumes.

I enjoy playing Montaro occasionally, as it is a good time waster, and the colors and art style are very nice. Even if you don't particularly like dogs, you may enjoy this game if you like memes. I don't particularly like dogs much, but I still enjoyed it none the less.

Even though this game only requires you to press one button, it can still be somewhat challenging, as you have to get the timing right. But it is neither too easy, nor too hard.

I definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun and intermediate time waster/side scroller.

While I haven't played many hexagon-based puzzle games just yet, Hexcells is the best one that I have played so far. It's an easy puzzle game based on correctly revealing hexagons based on the hexagons around them, but it's not so easy that it's boring either. Also, while I say "correctly" reavealing the hexagons, it doesn't necesarily punish you, other than that you eventually have to redo the level if you are aiming for all of the acheivements.

Hexcells is just challenging enough to be fun, and I look forward to playing all of the other games in the series as well.

I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a good puzzle game or just generally likes hexagon puzzles.

Interesting concept, poor execution.

We Become What WE Behold is basically a linear experience focused on teaching you that the media will show you paranoia and violence, thus creating a cycle of ever increasing paranoia and violence. It's a lesson that can be easily learned just by watching the news.

I went into this game hoping to have a fun time, thinking it was an actual game, but my disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.

I do not recommend this game, as it's not really a game. If they made an actual non-linear game using a similar concept, that would be pretty cool.

Witly is a VR application that is based on a very interesting and excellent idea: being able to learn other languages in VR.

Sadly the execution is very poor, as all you can access is a tutorial, and everything else is behind a paywall. Basically this app's purpose is to get you to hire a teacher/tutor for one on one language learning in VR. What they should have done is make an application where the application will teach you after you pay for the application itself. I haven't looked for another application like that just yet, but if you are serious about learning another language in VR, I would look elsewhere unless you have tons of money to spend.

I don't recommend Witly, as there are less expensive language learning apps out there.

More of an educational and interactive art piece, Secrets of Soil sadly isn't even all that interactive, even though it is a little.

It's good as an educational introduction to the ecosystem that lives in the soil, other than the lights. It basically teaches you what lives in the soil and how those things interact with each other, and doesn't really take very long to get through, maybe an hour at the most. Aside from the lack of interactivity, the biggest problem I have with it is that when they mention that there are things that can be done about the soil ecosystem being destroyed, is that when they end it with a link on how to support the soil ecosystem in your back yard, but that is far from an actual solution to the major problem of the earth's dirt ecosystem being destroyed. Sadly, the people who own the most amount of land probably won't do anything to restore it, but this is still a good educational tool to introduce someone to making compost piles as a hobby.

Overall, I recommend it as an educational too, but I don't recommend it as a game, since it can't really be considered a game.

AltspaceVR has one advantage over it's competitors: events. That's it. In the day and age of VR where every big tech company is starting to toss their hat in the ring, this one only really has that one advantage and that's it.

I mean, the tutorial isn't bad, but the controls(at least on the Vive) leave much to be desired. I couldn't find a way to move around without teleporting, and I'm really not a fan of teleporting.

Sadly avatar customization is very limited, as they aren't very customizable. You can't change the shape or form of your avatar beyond the options they present you in the application, which is extremely disappointing. There exist other VR social applications in which you can become practically anything you want to, which is why in Altspace they are going to need to step up their avatar customization if they want to even have a chance at competing in the VR social space in this day and age.

There is a way to explore worlds in Altspace, but unfortunately the option is disabled unless you intentionally go into settings to do so, and even then, there are very few worlds you can explore at any given time. Most of the worlds are presented as events by default, which gives introverts and world explorers very little choice other than to socialize. One of the beauties of other social VR applications is that you don't have to socialize or even interact with other players if you don't want to, you can just explore avatars and worlds, but not in Altspace.

That brings me to the next problem with Alt Space: there are only so many players on at any given time. Altspace has a very small player base, which is likely becuase of all the reasons I have listed above. If it's going to survive in the competitive landscape that is forming today for VR, Alt Space is going to have to make a change.

At this time, I do not recommend AltspaceVR, as it resembles a lot of the undesirable features that Meta would like the VR social space to become: boring, bland, and forcing you to socialize even if you are there for something else. I find that the VR social space will shine it's brightest when you can be what you want to be, do what you want to, and that is not something you can do in Altspace.
