Smurfing is ruining the game for me. Every response of a smurf makes me angry to read, because they obviously feel justified in what they're doing and are unable to mentally see the other side of the picture. People can ♥♥♥♥ off with the "use it as an opportunity to better yourself" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mentality. You don't get better by getting absolutely wrecked and having your spirit crushed for 16 rounds straight. Anyone who thinks you do has never done anything competitive. You get better by climbing the rungs of the ladder, by playing people that are just a step above your skill level (GASP, that's how MM NORMALLY works IF THERE WERE NO SMURFS, it doesn't just match you up with GEs when you're a Silver!), not people that have mastered every part of the game while you're still learning the basics. You're killing the game from the inside by nipping players at the bud and making them want to quit. The small minority of top-tier players is ruining the game for the overwhelming majority. For you, you're just playing a few fun games with your buddies, laughing and having a good time because you feel like a CS God and you're showing off for your friends. For me, I'm getting crushed game after game in my solo MM queues and de-ranking because the top fragger on the other team that just 16-2'd us is an unranked LEM whose whole team is telling my team "rekt" "sit down" and "get better ♥♥♥♥".
For everyone that says "But I want to play with my low-ranked friends who don't play the game a lot, and if we queue with my main account, they just get destroyed by higher ranks and it's not fun for them because matchmaking sucks." There's a lot of problems with this thinking. For the competitive matchmaking system to be accurate and make a competitive match, the teams need to be of similar skill levels. When you queue for a competitive match with people who are way below your skill level, you're throwing that balance out of whack. You're on the losing end of that imbalance when you queue with your friends on your main account, so you smurf in order to manipulate the competitive matchmaking system into thinking you're a lower-skilled player, so that you can be on the winning end of that imbalance. The teams are still imbalanced either way. Only, in the first scenario, the team you queued up against wasn't intentionally trying to queue up against a team they could roll over. They were queuing for a normal competitive match, and were matched up against a team that the system considers of roughly equal skill (you're probably higher ranked than the enemy team, and your queue partners are lower). It's hard for the system to balance, because the differences in skill become more nuanced at higher levels. You might be better at map awareness, and have slightly quicker reactions than your opponents, but they're still good and more consistent by any measure when compared to your team mates, so it's harder to carry the weight of your friends. And you can give your team mates all the instructions in the world, but that doesn't mean their muscle memory for aiming is going to suddenly be amazing. That comes with time and practice. By smurfing, however, you're intentionally trying to not really play a competitive game, but instead play an easy game where you can have fun with your friends. I suggest you look into a mode called casual for when you want to play casually or with your friends who aren't as competitive as you in the game and instead play it more casually. If you don't like casual mode and are instead trying to teach your friends the ropes of competitive play, then play competitive (with your main account), and coach them, but expect to lose, as you probably should when you bring low level players into a high level game. If you coach them well and provide explanations and teach them, they'll benefit much more from playing in high level games than by you carrying them in low level games.
