This game is a masterpiece. At least, it has the potential to be.

I just finished the storyline thus far in the game, and I must say it left me speechless. The story is thrilling from start to finish, although it does require some reading (trust me, it's worth it).

As far as gameplay is concerned, I found it challenging, but not frustrating. I enjoy games that teach the player and then test the player's knowledge and adaptability. This game executed this flawlessly. The enemy ships in Rodina start out small, like a couple of fast, low-firepower ships. As you progress through the game, you have to fight larger, more powerful ships, and usually a different strategy is required. I would describe the combat itself as a spacecraft dogfight. The main weapon is a machine gun-like weapon with an enormous spread. At first it seemed unappealing, but I grew to love it with use, and so will you. The game has four (so far) different secondary weapons, and the player may only select which secondary weapon to choose while inside the ship, using its operations computer. This forces the player to choose the secondary weapon outside of combat, which means you must plan your battles.

I could go on and on about the gameplay and never get tired of talking about it. Rodina has many interesting features and challenges to keep the game interesting. For example, if your ship takes enough damage, you may have to leave the controls to fight a fire inside your ship with a fire extinguisher, or else slowly lose health until your ship explodes. Also, when entering a planet's atmosphere, the player must control the ships speed so that it doesn't differentiate into the atmosphere. Also, the controls become unstable during this, adding to the challenge.

Another fantastic feature of the game is that it is, of course, completely seamless. Even in hyperdrive mode, as you cross an entire galaxy, the only discomfort you will encounter is a tiny drop in fps.

This game is amazing. Sure, some things can be improved and added (most of the walking around, planet surface walking, player weapons like guns), but there is plenty of room for more features. Personally, I'm excited to see the next chapter of the Rodina story. Do yourself a favor and get the game, it's a great experience and you will follow the development of a fantastic game with a riveting story.
