This is only one of about 4 single player games I've really played in the past decade. I knew I liked the first one those many years ago, I figured I'd try playing the newer one, but only got to it this year (2022). I'm actually really enjoying it. I like the premise and the story so far.... I'm a huge Red Dawn fan, so that may be why I'm drawn to this game. I'm pretty far into it (22 hours as of writing this) and find the story intriguing enough. Some of the characters are a bit over the top, but it's forgivable. The openness of traveling between areas is nice and the different side challenges you have are great. Really like being able to decide if I just go straight through the story mode or do I try to complete every secondary objective for an area and help spur the revolution further. The change you see in the people especially in the occupied zones as you progress is pretty cool... Weapon variety is interesting as is the "jobs" you can optionally choose. The atmosphere is well done. The graphics are pretty good even for today's standards... my biggest complaints would be the occasional enemy appearing out of nowhere... it's not that I've ever seen them spawn in, but you just clear a street and a house and then go right back into it and now there's an enemy there that didn't seem like he could have been. It doesn't happen very often, but ruins it a bit when it does. Haven't tried the Co-op version of the game, so I can only talk about the single player, but will say the single player experience keeps me intrigued with the variety of things to do and the story.
