I'd rather crash myself in real life at full speed than crashing into anything at 15 km/h in this game. Traditionally racing games are simply a game of avoiding collisions, and this game is really like that. So patience and carefulness are helpful to win.

Achievements are achievable by simply playing the game and win on every track, which is quite rewarding just to play. P2 can join this game (or the game also have Remote Play Together), haven't tried because I don't have friends, but I think every achievement are still achievable by playing alone. Keyboard controls are okay, haven't tried joystick on this. And overall the game is visibly simple but fun nonetheless.

This is actually an amazing idea to have like virtual convention. And I am willing to complete all the objective like watching trailers and gathering hidden stuff. But the game has terrible CPU usage, mine is almost 100% usage all the time. And that is preventing me from completing the game.

My machine is not the best but can still run heavy games like Battlefield 1 or probably Arma 3, Day of Infamy and Insurgency (source) where they are another game that are CPU heavy, but runs quite well and at least stable and playable. But this game is worse than them.

At one point after the Weird West booth the next area after a door can never load. If I enter the door I can only fall and the only way is to force quit from taskmgr, I cannot make further progress in the game.

If this problem will get fixed in future I really want to come back to play this. I'd recommend this game if you have a beast PC but probably not for average mid-low spec PC. But it is free and a 7 GB download, you can try it for yourself.

A note: I got this game while it was free to keep a while back. Also my English is a bit fuzzy, so I may have weird or vague words being used to describe things in this review.

I don't usually play random games I had in my library but I remembered I had this game, and I remember it looks kinda similar to games that I've played when I was younger like Azada, or other 'item searching' games like Hidden Expedition: Everest, and Big City Adventure: San Francisco. But This game is more similar to Azada, only without its mini-games/puzzle. Because not only you need to find things around, you can craft them to create new item and it will have new use in future play time.

I would say this game is simpler and shorter than Azada, but this game is still amazing as itself. Along the game you will find notes that are containing philosophical messages, and you as the character gives comment from the voice acting.

Short Review
This game is short but I'm having fun with this game. Finding philosophical messages and talks. With a really nice visual. Interesting but not so much items to find and combine them as future use. Has achievements that can be achieved only by playing, and a couple more need you to play it in specific way. I found no bugs. And confusing movement control. If I give it a score, I'd give it 8.5/10.

Achievement
Achievements in this game is not grindy. You get one as you play through. There are only some achievemets that need you to complete specific way of playing. Which is not so hard either. Only one of them need a little bit more time to complete but really this game is not so long so you can get it.

Bugs?
I found nothing. No weird or annoying things either. Not counting movement because that is how the game is intended to be, I talk about it in the Movement section below.

Visual
The game is visually gorgeous, probably just look at the images at the store page. Yes this is not like other real-time 3D games so that can give advantage to have pretty visual.

[note: This section will probably contain little spoiler, continuing the visual review part]

Except at one point in this game, which that is a really gorgeous scene. The scene lightning is probably baked so it can run so smoothly (not that using real-time lightning is necessary in this game), but that is a really amazing to look at. I spent a moment just to look around to the beauty of the lightning despite that is just a small room. I wonder if the game was supposed to be like that initially, and this classic first-person control is better- which leads me to the movement mechanic complain.

Complain: Movement
Some complain that I have is that it can be a little disorienting while playing because it's not like common first-person control. I often get lost where am I going. Player move from point-to-point with quick fade so brain is not really defining where am I going pretty clearly. And the FoV of every view is small. Though as a still rendered image that is an OK FoV size. So about this, I have no suggestion what is a good movement mechanic in a game with this kind of way of visual being presented.

Complain: Items to search
The other complain that I have is probably the game is not very deep about what you have to find throughout the scenes. From the first scene to the last, you will only have to find the same stuff each scene to then you can use them to enter new scene. It is okay but when I hear the name is "The Search" I thought there would be a lot more stuff to find like how I played some games I've mentioned previously. But okay it is technically the truth you search for stuff in this game.

If I have suggestion about how would I add more stuff to search but not necessarily make every item player find is craftable, I think you can divide which items craftable and not craftable by how you take them. Player can take craftable items and store them to their inventory as how this game already is.

And then you have camera, I'd give it another use that the player can use camera to collect more photograph of random items, this is how the other item will be collected. Then this type of item will have its own inventory which player can access from main menu to see everything player has captured.

This type of items will not necessarily have clear sign that this item is collectible as I am not going to make it a very important thing. I'd let the player explore by themselves. But to randomly find a stuff is collectible is a satisfaction I get from the games I've mentioned previously. So I personally think this is a fun to add.

Having so much fun playing this game. It's the same game but with new contents and visual overhaul which triggers the "hey I haven't tried this before" thought when playing, just like how I play games when I was younger. This is a modern remaster of a 20 years old game. It's classic but fit in this modern time which made the playability better than the CD or HD version, though the HD is still very playable to this date.

But because of this 'modern' remaster as well, it costs a thing: does not run as good as HD in the lower hardware specification. But since its release, I noticed small improvement on the performance from the updates.

Additional Linux review: This game runs fine, slightly slower on Linux. Little freeze when you double click a group of units, and menu UI load is quite long. There is a little tweak you have to do to be able play online. And lastly the Xbox sign in option is not possible since that would require to launch Xbox app on Windows 10.

I'm on Manjaro with Plasma desktop, using Proton 5.9 GE custom. As a singleplayer skirmisher I'd say it's just playable, still. I don't think tiny freezes help for being a competitive player. See more details at the game's page on ProtonDB site.

Review as someone who enjoy this game but never play online and only play casually in practice mode. I'm not even into cars so much.

> Fun
The game is pretty enjoyable for relax driving or having fun driving alone no racing in practice mode. Practice mode gives me freedom to just do what I enjoy.

> AI
Racing with AI? I can't tell. I never really play against AI since it requires more CPU power, so it's lagging in my laptop. My laptop is not the best but this game still runs.

> Performance
Unless you play the game with no AI the game runs pretty good at 30 fps in my laptop with low settings. It doesn't look bad on low. But if you have better PC I think you can get a lot better visual. Looking at the game's screenshot online it looks beautiful. There is also shader mod to make the game look even better.

> Control & Physics
The car physics is more challenging compared to arcade racing games(since this game is more of a simulation) so using keyboard is not actually the best. The default keyboard control is a bit weird. But you can modify the setup so if you adjust your keyboard it can be a lot better.

I only play with keyboard or sometimes with mouse and keyboard. Using the mouse as steer is more realistic. Also you have to adjust the steer sensitivity to about 0.60 to make it comfortable.

> Modding
The modding support make the game more fun. You can have custom cars, track, or app/widget(ingame UI component). If you are bored with one track you can get more track online. Mostly from Race Department site. Not only content modding but visual modding is also possible. There are shader mods which improves the visual a lot. And also there is a night mod so you can play tracks in dark, night time.

> Audio
Since I'm not into cars, I can't tell if the audio is good or not. But I personally think the audio is not the best. But some cars do have nice sound.

> Cars
Again I'm not really into cars so I can't give the best opinion. The game has a lot car brand selection. And every brand has more car selection. Some has only few. And some cars are divided to the DLC.

> DLC
The vanilla game is about 25GB already and I don't really wanna add too much things so I only pick 2 DLC which I think the best for me. Those are Dream Pack 1 because I want the Nordschleife track, it is so good. And the Japanese pack because it's the cheapest and it has some cars I like.

> UI
One annoying thing is the menu UI. It has an animation to transition between page or menu so there is a little delay to play that animation before you can start clicking other thing. If the animations play faster it could be better. But the In-game apps/HUD is very customizable on what you need.

8.7/10.0 Enjoyable for casual player to taste racing sim.

When I finished Portal and in the end listening to Still Alive, I instantly fell in love with it. I think I've heard this song before couple time but because I was never play the game it just went away. Then after playing the game and following the story I instantly fell in love with Still Alive because the lyrics is kind of ironic, but maybe that is I like it so much. And definitely Still Alive is a type of song that I like.

One of game in my library which I can play for fun and relax in standard game with AI while listening to music. Better to play with friend or family. Or just creating a battle in the map editor which I did a lot when I was younger with The Conquerors version. And the Steam Workshop mods just makes the game more customised which is cool.
