Splitgate is a nice example of a quick in-and-out shooter where you can quickly get into a game, have some fun and then go about your day. The queue times are pretty good, did not have to wait for more then a minute to get into a match.
The game brings an interesting twist to the FPS genre by introducing portals as a means of getting around the map quicker. It does take some getting used to and a lot of practice for their use to become second nature. (I am still terrible at it :P).
The gunplay is solid with good hit detection (on the whole body) and a nice variety of weapons. Sometimes I feel like you have to aim a little bit above the head to actually hit a headshot, which is particularely annoying in game modes like Team Swat where headshots are instant kills.
The movement includes a jetpack system next to portals. Although it is a good way of getting around the map, you will often find yourself floating for too long as the time to getting back to the ground is pretty high. Because of this I recommend using it in short bursts.
The game offers a rich selection of game modes. Ranging from classics, like Team Deathmatch and Gun Game, to more unique ones like VIP and Team Oddball. Combine these with the unique movement system and you will find yourself having a lot of fun.
Overall I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to chill out with a nice, free-to-play FPS that offers a unique spin on the shooter genre.
