So i got this expecting a "Advance Wars" spirtual successor. it is that. However when comparing 1:1, this is a lesser game. But its not bad. At a glance, it is a solid homage. The semi-cartoony art style, the almost Rock Paper Scissors style combat feels familiar if you've played Advance Wars. It has some flaws, mostly over the lack of units and content, feeling almost like an early beta. The core gameplay is there, so its just adding in content and fixing it as it goes. It does add a few things to change up gameplay though. I'd reccomend it, mostly if your a fan of the old Advance Wars games.

Now comes the good.
Its a solid game, looks good, plays good, i fell into playing it and ha gotten a fair bit into the campaign in only 3 hours. It expands on the normal gameplay that Advance Wars offered by the addition of three new mechanics. Focus Fire, Assault and Radar. Focus Fire, which lets you surround an enemy unit and focus fire 2-4 units of damage on it. So instead of trading damage for damage until a kill, you just overwhelm the opponent's unit. Second is Assault. This lets you force an enemy unit back a tile, but you deal less damage and take more than if you just normally attack. The third, Radar, lets you detect units in the fog of war, allowing in direct attack on said unit. It might be infantry, a tank or an enemy radar. You dont know, but you can shoot it so long as your radar can detect it. There is also Hero units, that give the campaign some unique options in terms of strategy.

The bad
Its lacking in content as of this writing. No map Maker, a smaller variety of units to choose from, and the overall feel that i'm playing part 1 of a 5 part game. I'd also love to see your chosen commanding officer have passive abilities that reflect their character for the campaign. This is a definate point of contention, so its a take or leave it. Then the unit controls. The click once to select, then again to choose direction, then another to attack if you can definatly feels a bit much.

Overall, i'd reccomend, mostly if your a fan and want that nostolgia and are too lazy to download and Emulator, or are wanting a newer take on the game with some new and unique gameplay changes.

Early Access Review
Angels Fall First is a sci-fi combined arms game. This means you fight alongside tanks, APCs, and gunships, among other weapons. On top of that, its a larger scale FPS, so its not 8v8, its 32v32, which isnt much now, but gives the rounds a sense of scale, but not too much. And like other reviews state, it is similiar to Star Wars Battlefront II, in that there is a space portion and a land portion. While the UI, customization and tutorials on how things work needs tweaked, once its polished, i'm sure this game will develop a large multi-player community
