Can I recommend Hades? Why yes, of course! It's really hard to talk about how brilliant the story writing is or how clever the game mechanic for delivering the story without spoiling numerous little details one would enjoy discovering on their own. I'm over 100 hours into the game, and the story continues developing even after the formal ending.

And, if you don't like rogue-like games or are not really good at them (like me), just turn on God Mode from the very beginning — it doesn't affect a thing except making the game easier.

If you like Twin Peaks and The X-Files, you will find red curtains, FBI investigations and a little bit of interactivity mixed together in this rather unusual game.

Simply delightful. Amusing animation, cute card-centred design, characters to make one chuckle, and multiple ways to solve problems.

Basically, the gateway VR game.

‘I can relate to killing annoying people,’ said my colleague when I told I was playing “Party Hard” over the weekend.

The game is a serial killer simulator where you need to murder some noisy party-goers depriving you from sleeping. The plot is delivered through cut-scenes with a rather terrible voice acting, but it is quite secondary to the gameplay anyway.

The game has a bunch of bugs and glitches, not completely game-breaking, but rather annoying (e.g., a corpse appearing standing instead of getting dumped, so you have to pick it up and try to dump again). Some of the achievements are needlessly grindy, even though levels have some replay value (traps are randomised each time one starts a level).

The game is old-fashioned in a most positive sense: charming chip music, vivid 8-bit graphics, classic detective plot, arcade-age minigames. It is clearly a product of a lot of craft and care. I also quite enjoyed the humour and the characters in the game, but I can imagine it could be not for everyone.

This game might be taking it a bit too far, but the more developers create games going away from the typical expectations, games without violence, without constant need to going somewhere and doing something, maybe without plot at all, the better it is for the game industry, which has been stewing in its own juices for quite a while.

Captivating story told through a surprisingly simple mechanic. One can compare it to “Stanley Parable” as both games use unpretentious yet unique mechanic to deliver complex narrative, and as both games carefully balance player's freedom and story consistency.

Escher's mind-bending drawings come to life. Slightly repetitive, but visually pleasing.
