Simple and fun Mr Do! variant with quite a cool interval-based defence aspect. Mine and collect resources to level up your character and base. Lots of different variations of the base types so there's a reasonable amount of replayability. Gfx and music are really good. Easy recommend.

Short game - only 5-7 hours really, but I really enjoyed it. The game flowed really well through all the locations, and the hints were enough to avoid frustration without spoiling it. Easy recommend.

I played the first game right through and enjoyed it a lot, and this sequel is a worthy successor in many respects. The island environment itself is fantastic - super-atmospheric and immersive. I have an RTX 3080Ti, so I was able to play on Ultra - YMMV. I can't describe all the environments without spoilers - safe to say that there are lots of delightful surprises and places to discover and explore.

That said, this is an incomplete game. The plot is patchy and feels like it was tacked on to a sandbox environment that got all the love (and deservedly so), but the story is thin at best. Characters that show up several times and are never explained. The final areas prior to the end-game scenes are weird after-thought bolt-ons, almost "on-rails". The whole end feels like a rush to release. Why spend the whole game gathering weapons and armor, only to use a single item to get through most of the last part? It felt like someone was reading the Serious-Sam playbook for the final fight, with the "oh look, someone just happened to leave all the ammo/weapons we could possibly need right here... must be the boss-fight" trope. Finally, the "endings" - oh my dog, please just rip these out and redo them completely. Awful.

In conclusion, the game is worth the money for the environment alone, but don't expect a story. At the moment the story is a complete disappointment, and I really do hope that Endnight plan to completely rework it.

Update:

I gave this game a second look after PirateSoftware streamed a Let's play. The addition alone of the element compass was a massive quality of life improvement, and it was much easier to get back into the game than it would have otherwise been. The progression is now solid, if a little grindy - you have to keep making the same special reagents over and over out of lesser potions, but it's actually quite good fun once you get past the annoyance of running out of ingredients all the time.

I've changed my review to a recommend - it's now a proper full game with somewhere to go once you learn the basic mechanics. My only gripe is that they should TELL people that the "swirlies" are harmless and you can travel over them. I spent ages trying to edge around these things when i started playing. :/

Previous review for context:
The potential for a good game is there, but it just hasn't been realised yet. I love the art style, and the basic mechanics are interesting, but there's no story and no depth. There's also no goal or endgame - you just either increase the counters for money and ingredients, or you don't, and there's no purpose for doing either. Right now it's worth a couple of hours of fiddling about before you resort to internet lists of recipes, but not much more.

Hopefully in time the devs will flesh it out, and justify the recommendation I would love to give it.

Pros:
Good fun with friends.
Very watchable stream content.
Quite good fun solo, but becomes repetitive.
Hopefully the dev will add more maps, items, ghost types etc.

Cons:
Voice recog only works with windows 10.
Sole developer.

Had a lot of fun with jumpy friends in this game, and it seems to have a lot of promise with regard to new features and maps - recommended. :)

Dev: Also, I loved the Halloween theme! Keep doing things like that.

TLDR: Great solo or co-op looter shooter. Story is fun, and side missions will keep you busy for many hours. Well worth the money for the base game. I'd also highly recommend the Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep DLC. I have 600+ hours so it's been great value for money.

Pros:
-Cell graphics art (I like - ymmv)
-Loads of humor
-Wide range of weapons and other equipment
-Good range of characters you can play as (Don't just select the default Commando - read them all and pick one you like! Siren and Gunzerker were also fun)
-Great story and NPC characters
-'SPLOSIONS!!!!!!

Cons:
-You get stuck on things everywhere. This will drive you insane until you just accept it as a feature and learn to compensate
-No endgame plan, so they resorted to the usual "prestige" crap. No, I do not want to play the same story again another X times in varying difficulties.
-There is Normal Mode, True Vault Hunter Mode, and Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. UVHM is a bullet-sponge nightmare of epic proportions. Guns improve exponentially as you level from 50 onwards, but this also means that you're basically having to change your entire load-out every couple of levels just to keep up with the scaling difficulty of the enemies. It's a tiresome slog by that point.
-Old game so you'll need to organise a party yourself if you want to play with anyone online.

Really enjoyable experience. The graphics and audio are atmospheric, the story is great. Doesn't take very long to work out how to do things, and every new discovery is rewarding. Not a very long game, but satisfyingly so.
